Also, that first "Flat Earth Video" that
@morse86 posted had a "Flat Earth Model" that explained why that greek guy's calculations worked the way they did... okay, that might explain light, but you know what it
doesn't explain?
A little something called Equinox and Seasons.
Look at the Equator. All of the regions near the Equator are Hot all year round, right?
Areas North and South of the Equator are Temperate -- for roughly half of the year, they are warm and the other half of the year, they are cold,
and they alternate in perfect clockwork, but yet they STILL experience night&day cycles. When it is Winter in the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere has Summer and vice-versa. I should know, I have an Australian friend that I talk to quite often and they were complaining about cold and snow in July and I checked it on the internet, and yes indeed, it was very cold down there in July according to weather service sites on the Internet.
So how do you account for the Equator, Equinoxes, and the Seasons with a Flat Earth? You could maybe put the Sun&Moon in a ring in the sky.... but wait a minute... where's the warmth coming from again? The Sun, of course. When you stand in the Sunlight, you can feel the warmth. Step in the Shade and you suddenly lose 5-10 degrees. You can put a pane of glass between you and the Sun and the same thing happens. The sunlight
itself makes a huge difference in Temperature. If the Sun was on this weird "ring" above a Flat Earth, then how do you account for the Season Changes?
Meanwhile, Round Earth explains it perfectly -- the hemisphere that is tilted towards the Sun gets Summer, the side that is tilted away from the Sun gets Winter and the Earth tilts back and forth during its rotations (which also gives a perfect explanation of Day/Night cycles as well).
So...
On one side, you got a Flat Earth proposal that raises more questions than answers (I've yet to hear a Flat Earth person explain the Seasons and Equinoxes) and other plain absurdity like "Why haven't we seen the edges of the Earth yet?" and their answer is always "Government Conspiracies!" (despite the fact there are people who have ventured deep into Antarctica, what they call the "South Pole", multiple people who came back to tell their stories). They throw out all images from Space because "NASA IS LYING!" (despite the fact NASA isn't the only agency that has ever claim they sent people to space).
Meanwhile, Round Earth people throw out all kinds of evidence, such as Seasons, Trigonometry experiments, visual evidence that you can observe yourself in any port town, as to why their theory sounds the most likely.
So... yeah. I'm waiting for your explanation of the Northern/Southern Hemisphere and Seasons, how the Equator works, etc if the Earth is Flat. Remember: The Equator
goes all the way around the globe and it is even and predictable. That's why we have globes modeled the way we do, and why the continents are always put on the globe in that particular formation.
Give me a Flat Earth Model that shows me how the Seasons, Equator, and Equinoxes work and I'll think about it. And no, "It's magic" doesn't work. Sorry.
EDIT: Also, Erosthenes (sp?)'s Trig Calculations... you mind telling me how... if you think he's wrong and/or he didn't prove anything... how did his measurements and calculations
produce a globe that is almost exactly the right size to fit the continents, INCLUDING the Americas which the Greeks didn't know they existed?
Was that just an insanely lucky guess to come up with a sphere big enough to fit a whole hemisphere that wasn't even known to exist at the time? lol?
What's the chances of that happening?
