• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Sounds to me like your are both saying the same thing.

Local variation is huge while the average deviation is tiny.
Anyone attempting to directly measure the curve
would not likely be able to get past measurement error.

Just as the ship on the horizon is used as the best example
it is similarly a good example of how well ships can fly.

We're going to get dinged for going off topic---soooo----they move because the earth is flat and ice forms under the rocks causing them to slide off the ice? Is that the Death Valley ones or the ones in Peru?

Lookie what I found!!! Martian Chronicles sand ship!!!

Death valley. Your flat earth explanation for moving rocks is no worse than anyone else's.

I'm not defending a flat earth. I defending that most people observe a flat earth.
And what is science if not perception of the world?

And what is humanity if we scorn others people's perceptions of the world
rather than try to learn from them.

I don't think so. They think they observe a flat earth. And upon closer investigation, it turns out they don't.

Science is measurement of the world. Science isn't based on your subjective perceptions of the world, but by empirical measurements that are capable of testing the hypothesis. For the scientific hypothesis that the Earth is curved, you would need to use a method of measurement that would be able to detect curvature for the proposed circumference of the Earth.
And what is humanity if we scorn others people's perceptions of the world
rather than try to learn from them.

What is humanity if they refuse to accept evidence in preference for outdated beliefs?

If you can build a sailboat in hell you could sail along The River Styx

The River Styx Matte Paintingby Kromespawn

Digital Art / Drawings & Paintings / Illustrations / Conceptual©2011-2015 Kromespawn

This dark, hideous, scene was done for a film treatment involving a scene at the River Styx, at the entrance to Hades. Tried to really deviate from the usual happy, sunny, rainbow-ridden versions of Hades so prominent in the art world today and really went for something gloomy.
Cuz I'm a rebel like that.

Done in Photoshop, using random Google images, custom brushes, and conjured mental pictures of my old neighborhood in Houston.
