  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes.

As we're fond of saying:

If the Devil can't get you to step on the breaks, he will get you to hit the gas.

Or perhaps... just bare with me here... perhaps the parts of the Bible that creationists use to reject deep time and evolution were not meant to be read that way, any more than the passages that geocentrists use to reject heliocentrism, or the passages that flat-earthers use to reject a spherical earth. Because there are many Christians who view creationists/evolution deniers the same way you view geocentrists and flat-earthers.

As man has never been to the moon it is hard to say.

Wait, did you guys seriously debate for 9 pages about whether or not the earth is flat?

That's false pictures from NASA and if you see a curve when you look at the see on the beach it's because the devil bends the light so it only seems like that. The earth is hollow.

Oooooh, okay, I get it, whether or not the earth is hollow. That makes way more sense. :)

Yep---did you think it was solid??---silly boy---there has to be room for the Hobbits.

I may need your help: Where does the Bible say that the earth is flat?

I asked that a long time ago--still no verses. I also asked how come God made the moon and all the other planets round and only the earth flat---maybe he ran out of power by then?

No no, the sun and the stars are in the middle, not the hobbits. It may look like the universe is unending big, but nope, it's all trapped in a hollow earth. And I have a LOT of Bible texts to prove it, too lazy to translate 'em though, it's in Dutch.

Why do you people accuse that the Bible says a flat earth? Where does the question come from?

Just off the top of my head: Daniel 4:10-11, Matthew 4:8, and depending on how you translate the hebrew Isaiah 40:22.
Also, Isaiah 11:12 and Revelation 7:1, but that's a really weak argument, as corners make about as much sense on a disk as they do on a sphere. It's easy to claim that all of this is metaphor or allegory, but I wonder why you can't do the same for Genesis 1.

The corners of Israel, the Middle East or North West East South maybe.

Daniel 4 is Nebuchadnezzar's dream.

If Peter Singer or Stephen Hawking had the same dream, would you claim he believes the earth is flat?

(What if you had it?)

Thanks. I will think about it carefully.

But one question which seeks your opinion: Do most tables or desks (ancient or modern) have four corners? Why four but not five or six or eight? Or, be rounded and has no corner? Why would human prefer a utility surface with four corners?

Please don't. It's a bizarre interpretation of the bible which is obviously wrong, and which makes far more sense as a metaphor than as actual straight prose.

I thought about this particular description before. And this is my answer to it:

In fact, if the earth were flat, then to raise oneself very high would NOT allow him to see far side in a clear way. The farther you can see, the lower resolution will be the view. Eventually, at high enough altitude, one can not identify objects at the end of the view. I think this should be a common experience for anyone who ever lived on the earth. If so, what would those verses mean and how would it work?

It will work only under ONE situation: the earth is round and is rotating. So, if one rose high and stay at one locality (relative to the moon, for example), the earth will roll under his feet. It is like to take a pan picture with a 360° rotation. Everything will be clear when it comes into your view.

No. I am serious.

When Lord Jesus come back again, EVERYONE on the earth would see Him at the real time. I want to know how would it work. Once before, I thought TV (now internet) would be able to do that. The TV is still not a bad idea for this question.

Maybe they're all at the same place.
