  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm confused. Despite physical evidence to the contrary, people still think the earth is flat?
I don't think anyone really thinks the earth is flat, per se.

It's more like educatees like to think the Bible claims the earth is flat when, in reality, It doesn't.

They have their own way of interpreting the Scriptures.

Thus Genesis 1 is always allegorical, while other passages are, to them, literal.

And when it gets to the point where scientists are willing to set general relativity aside in an attempt to sterilize a passage of the Scriptures, you know the return of the LORD is very near.

We live in exciting times!

What scientists?
Does it matter?

Yes. You made a nonsensical, unattributed statement. Back it up.

Yeah that's not true. People think the earth is flat. There are several of them here. Their belief is not based on some conspiracy of scientists who are trying to discredit the Bible.

I've been here a little longer than you have.

Anyone who says the Bible describes a flat earth doesn't know general relativity.

Or if they do, they're willing to set it aside to ridicule the Bible.

Anyone who has not been told about a globe shaped earth will likely still consider the earth flat.
About 10% of US adults can't read.

Good point.

What are scientists excuse then?

After all, they believe the writers of the Bible were writing that the earth is flat.

Other than [conveniently] ignoring that God is the Author -- which would make them have to change their stance -- what seriously is their problem?

(I'd answer that, but you'd need a bigger monitor. ;))

You would never catch them examining the scriptures.
But scientists LOVE to look at pictures.
So using their sesame-street training (can you guess which thing is not like the others)
they assign a picture to a group.
They see one drawing of a flat earth - then assign that picture in their minds to
and "Conservative Christian" (minus their current co-workers of course).
That's just the way sesame street taught them before they went to college.
