  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Operation Full Burn - Serenity Sequel

Fans of the cancelled TV show “Firefly” and the subsequent big screen movie “Serenity” have begun a new campaign to get the attention of those that may influence any decision to make a sequel to the movie.

The plan is to have fans from all across the web converge on one point - the Universal HD Firefly Message Board - in an attempt to show just how many fans are really out there.

I am wondering if there are any Firefly fans around here. In my opinion the best sci fi ever created. Such a well written story and very memorable characters.
I'm going to pick up the box set soon. Everyone keeps talking about it, and I'm really curious!

A friend put me on to firefly, and to be really honest....why was it cancelled? Don't you just wish it had gone to Paramount or somebody who cares about sci-fi enough to do this idea justice. Even Farscape got several seasons, yet it lacked a degree of connectivity (yes that is a word, now) although some of the characters were endearing it was missing something. Yet firefly was completely different. I got it right from the start. OK it was violent in places, but I wanted to see if Mal ever finally got to know Yolonda/Saffron/Bridget's real name or that the "help" that her husband wanted to have was a lobotomy or not. Or what happened to Nishka? Brilliantly played by Michael Fairman, so sinister and likeable. Imagine him tucking in the grandchildren with a bedtime story about how business went today!

So many unanswered questions. They still weren't answered in Serenity which I felt in the end was a little disappointing because it reminded me a lot of Buffy; young girl fighting off hordes of deranged inbreds in fanatical martial art style to save the day. A little like Joss Wheden running out of ideas and once again a girl is the central character when in the series the whole crew and the ship were the main character. That is why if there is a sequel to the film or series, the story of River should not dominate or consume the story. Let's meet Mal's mum or Jayne's brother or visit Kaylee's folks and so on. So many possibilities and naughty Chinese grammar to boot. Bring it on and back!

you echo the thoughts of all who have watched Firefly I think :)

There's a very strong fan community online if you wanna get your "fix" of the 'verse :)
Um.. so why was it cancelled? It seemed so complete yet Fox just didn't get it. So why wasn't it picked up by someone else. I'm thinking about all the films (movies) that cost millions to make and are turkeys at the box office. Who has got some money to burn? Obviously someone who didn't like Firefly. Odd, but Nathan's character was seen in a more favourable light with women than men. So why was that not exploited in some way? Why couldn't the studio handle something different, offbeat a little wacky in places yet good entertaining fun? Just don't get it. I hope that if they get another chance for a film that Fox are not behind it in any way. It'll just be the kiss of death again.

Fox weren't behind the movie Serenity - Universal was and unfortunately the movie didn't do that well opening weekend. Since going to DVD it's done exceptionally well - but studios are less eager to continue with anything that doesn't bring them in big $$ immediately

The series was cancelled because of low ratings - chances are the low ratings were caused by the scheduling mess - Fox refused to air the pilot first and made the writers write another ep to be aired first (Train Job) then they kept swtiching the time/night and skipped weeks and so forth - so it never had a chance to find an audience.

There are literally thousands who agree with you that it deserved to stay on the air, unfortunately, what's done is done and we can only hope that eventually soemone who has the power to make a difference will come along and say "lets do more!" I keep hoping - as do the majority of the fan base. Another series is not likely - there's more chance of a second movie - but we shall see.... Keep Flyin'!

I think the low ratings were a cause of Marketing. I don't think the series was advertised enough. I hadn't heard of it until last year, and I generally keep up with Sci-Fi stuff. I guess I could blame it on not having Cable. Or just missing it entirely for no reason.
