Yeah I was a fan of VIII, most of my mates disliked it but I liked it, I reluctantly admit I never finished it and I missed some critical GFs. but all in all I liked the game.

and the westerniation isnt such a bad thing, just if they compromise too much then it is. as I was saying before more attention needs to be given to the old school fans, rather than casual gamers.

Hmm, I don't even have a PS2 yet, as I have no money and will have no money for a good long time :p *slaps monitor for going out so soon, only bought it last year and it's fried ><

Back on topic, my favorite FF games so far were FFIV, FFVI, FFVIII, and FFIX. A lot of people seem to not like FFIX since it was the last game released for the PSOne, but IMHO Zidane's one of the coolest characters that the FF games have to offer. A bishie thief with a monkey tail, LOL, who can't resist that. :)

I did aswell. I just wish they didn't ruin it with the draw system, and boring "mini games".

Yeah, the draw system was quite boring, but I'm not sure how junctioning could have worked w/o it. And I absolutely loved the junction system-- as deep a character building system as I've seen in a console RPG. The mini-games are fine, I don't mind them too much. I loved the card game, actually.

I LOVED final Fantasy VIII. I played IX and part of X, but VIII was my favorite.

I love the music, So far I own FFVIII OST, FFVI OSV, FF Pray, FF Love will Grow, FF Potion 1 & 2, The 20020220 Concert, The Black Mages, and I have FFVIII piano in the mail. I wish I could have gone to the Dear Friends Concert though. I would recomend these CDs.

The most popular Final Fantasy game is FF VII, but I actually like VI better. It ties with The Longest Journey for the best story I've ever encountered in a game.

Terra, Locke, and Cyan all are such complex characters that they'd seem more appropriate in a novel than in a video game. The opening credits sequence with the three mechs marching through the blizzard is also one of the most atmospheric scences I've ever seen in a game, due in no small part to Nobuo Uematsu's music.

I also really like the opera scene. It's definitely strange, but there isn't anything else like it in any other game I've played.

I like Zidane and Vivi. . .;)

Back on topic, yeah, Locke, Cyan, and Terra were really deep characters, as were Terra and Setzer. :)

The first time characters were ever made was in FF II (the real FF II). From what I've heard, they had very little personality, although I never found out much myself since I quit trying to play it because it is probably the worst FF ever made.

FF IV's characters are my personal favorite and some are quite complex, especially Cain's and Cecil's.

IMO, VII is given too much credit. IMO, graphics shouldn't be worth much and characters, plot, and replay ability should be tops. FF VII is an excellent game, don't get me wrong, but the plot seems to be overdone; the story is pretty much solved at the end of disc 1.

In FF IV (my favorite), it twists and turns to the point that it isn't until very late in the game that the plot is solved when the last loose ends are tied together. True, you've got the crystals (again), but its been redone so that it is different (big surprise to those who think <blank> won after <blank>). Yeah, a girl get's kidnapped, but this time, the plot calls for it for an excellent reason thanks to several subplots. Similar things happen in FF VI; you've got to wait <blank> before everything matches up, and even then, the end surprises you.

In FF VII, Sephiroth's completely evil, goes, insane, needs to be stopped, etc etc etc. That's basically the entire story. There is little subtly; little finess IMO. A good storyline and a good plot includes these two vital characteristics.

FF VII's plot and storyline are okay, but it needs some remodeling. FF IV and FF VI, on the other hand, were better when it came to storylines and plots. FF VIII did an excellent job as well in this regard too. FF V was more bland, but IMO, not as bland as FF VII's.

While FFVII is my favorite (I haven't played the older ones, however), I will admit that its story was a bit weak. However, I really liked most of the characters, and there were some genuinely interesting plot twists. But storyline was never the main reason I played RPGs; I played them for gameplay and scope, and FFVII had both in spades, IMO. The materia system was really fun, and the side quests (esp. Chocobo breeding) were great.

I have to say, Final Fantasy VII is my all time favourite.
However, I was happy with the return to the original formula with IX after two futuristic FFs.
Final Fantasy X was good, but I wasn't too sure about its sequal. First time it's been done, and to be honest, I wasn't all that excited about it.
Also, I'm not a great fan of the new generation of Final Fantasy games, with them being massive online multiplayers. Perhaps that's because I don't (because I can't afford to :p) play FFXI enough, but I'd like to see a very good single-player game after the next FF (because FFXII is an online multiplayer as well!).

Boy...you all need to play the old school games! :D

I really wish I had been into RPGs back when the old school FF games were coming out. Now, it is really hard to get into them because of the graphics. I hate to admit how much importance graphics have, but I have trouble playing games like FFVI and Chrono Trigger because they feel so......simple, for lack of a better word, because of the graphics.
