Fill-In-The-Blank Game!

@Sam91 changed her mind about the vocal chords and decided to put in a temporary high-quality gastric elastic, to ensure that the Captain could only eat one serving at a time. She looked forward to the time where she could undo the surgery.

She also saw how professional @GreenWizard was as a surgical assistant and commended him for it, in the hope that he would step in if needed in future.

Sam91 turned around eagerly anticipating an opportunity to perfom life saving treatment... this could be fun. The good @Doctor.Sphinx stepped on the plank...

But before Sam91 could so much as let out a cry of 'Thank you Doctor Sphinx for being such a magnificent superhero and allowing me to be your trusty sidekick. I have learned so much under your direction that I may one day become a superheroine myself...' the Doctor had stepped off the plank.

The CF crew looked grimly over the side of the boat. The @GreenWizard was hoping to spot another mermaid.@Sam91 was wondering whether there were any sharks, and if so, whether she could save the doctor again - minus a limb or two, to make it more of a challenge this time, and to give him some interesting talking points afterward. @LaSorcia's pinky finger was repeatedly making a flicking motion as LaSorcia herself sipped at her tea, as if it was dancing with joy that she would have one less commoner to deal with. @DavidFirth, still wheelchair bound as he recovered from his gastric bypass operation, shook his head soberly. 'And this,' he warned the others, 'is the price of mutiny'.

The CF crew racked their brains trying to think of something nice to say about Doctor Sphinx, but no one had any ideas. Obviously, Sam did, but she couldn't mention those, as the rest of the crew didn't even accept that Doctor Sphinx was actually some sort of superhero, let alone that she could one day follow in his footsteps and become a superheroine herself - not as great, obviously, but still no-one to be trifled with. So instead, she read to everyone her favourite passage from Ephesians.

they all contemplated and began to wonder individually
was it time to leave the CF travel group and return to their families?

@christine40's helicopter arrived. It had the red, white and black bands of Egypt on it, and it was at this point, most of the group realised that it was she who secretly been the agent of Pharaoh all the time, with a mission to track down and apprehend or eliminate the brave and kind Doctor Sphinx.

@Sam91 even began to have second thoughts about who had sabotaged Captain @DavidFirth's wheelchair - perhaps it had really been Christine40, to frame and eliminate the good doctor. She donned her yarmulke of enablement-of-super-heroinic-powers-of-biblical-proportions, her sidekick still valiantly trying to fit into his own unsuitably-sized yarmulke of helpful-guide-to-nursing-for-the-surprisingly-inept-leprechaun, as it flopped about his head. Somewhat embarrassed at her sidekick's escapades, Sam91 pulled the funny hat from the @GreenWizard, and cast it into the ocean.

@*LILAC tut-tutted thoughtfully.

'Farewell, fellow CF crew-members, and, dare I say - friends,' Christine40 called out, as the Pharaoh's helicopter lifted off, preparing to carry her back from whence she came...

When ebony flew through her window, incredibly lucky to not have got caught up in the rotors. Sam91 and the rest noticed a rope lifting the also obese looking and folorn @Doctor.Sphinx out of the choppy water.

'Oh no' she cried impotently. Her dreams of owning a stuffed sphinx for her museum dwindling.

The crew also cried ambiguously. Suddenly a green wizard not wanting to lose his nemesis jumped overboard, seizing the rope. He started the process of gnawing at the rope.

'Rats!' cursed Doctor Sphinx, or was it that he was summoning something to protect him? @Sam91 was unsure, until several rodents of unusual size clambered bravely up the rope from the doctor's pockets, and engaged in mortal combat with the @GreenWizard. The doctor suddenly looked less obese, and Sam91 realised the kilos she'd thought he'd gained were only due to the guard-rats he must have been carrying in his trench-coat.

In the confusion, the good doctor was able to pull himself above the point on the rope where the leprechaun was gnawing.

Sam91 sighed internally. 'You just can't get good help these days,' she thought to herself.

Doctor Sphinx, hanging precariously from the rope with his right hand, suddenly waved the fingers of his left at Sam91. It was at this point that Sam realised the doctor hadn't been looking for lawn at all - which, she admitted to herself later, was quite a ridiculous thought - he had been searching for her, his faithful sidekick.

'Would you believe that I'm really 6000 years old?' the doctor called out over the ocean.

'Hard to reconcile with what we know of history, Doctor Sphinx. That would mean you predate not only the ancient Egyptians, but potentially also the Hebrews, Abraham, and possibly even the flood, of which we know, only Noah, his sons, and their wives survived,' Sam called back.

The good doctor stroked his chin thoughtfully, which was admittedly quite difficult even for him, given the present situation.

'I have need of a side-kick with circumspection such as yours,' the doctor responded, raising his voice as the helicopter continued to rise in the sky, the rats continued their battle with the leprechaun, and the leprechaun continued to chew through the rope, oblivious to the doctor's new position...

@Sam91 wasn't sure of what was going on but couldn't stand watching it any longer...

'Catch up with you soon Sphinxy. You seem to have 9 lives, you're sure to survive. If not I'll see you in Heaven. God bless you!'

Turning to @DavidFirth 'It's been a while since you ate. I actually smuggled some steak on board. I'll go grill you one now that GW and @Doctor.Sphinx are busy.'

'Wait! Wait!' called Doctor Sphinx to @christine40. 'We have to go back.'

'Whatever for?' yelled Christine40 back to the doctor, still hanging onto the rope. 'We've got what we came for. Now to head for home.'

'My side-kick!' the doctor tried to explain over the sound of the rotor blades. 'We've left her behind.'

'Oh. Well, now you have another one. The @GreenWizard will be a worthy addition to your adventures.'

The Doctor looked at the GreenWizard, and rolled his eyes. The leprechaun was still trying to gnaw through the rope with his teeth, not succombing to the rats still working tirelessly to bite him to death. 'At this rate, it's going to take until Christmas', Doctor Sphinx thought to himself.

'Swing the helicopter back over the ship. We have one final delivery to make.'

Christine40 grumpily ordered the helicopter pilot to make one last pass over the CF houseboat. Timing his action perfectly, the doctor severed the rope below him with his machete, just as the helicopter passed over the only grill aboard the CF boat. The leprechaun and attack rats went toppling down, and impacted the grill in such a way as to topple it overboard.

As the helicopter again headed off into the distance, Doctor Sphinx was pleased to see @Sam91 returning to the deck with the smuggled steaks, and rubbing her eyes as she looked in disbelief at the location the grill had previously been...

At this point @ebony started pecking at the pilot. The chopper, @christine40 and most importantly the at-that-moment-not-so-good @Doctor.Sphinx followed the grill into the sea.

All the rest of the members looked at each other in horror, willing someone other than themself to jump to the rescue...

Fortunately, it was @*LILAC to the rescue this time. Being a former life-saver in her younger days, and now fully convinced at the Doctor's amazing mental prowess for teaching her how the Earth's oceans really find their own level, rather than curving around like a ball, she decided this was a loss humanity couldn't bear - even if personally, she did get a little tired of the Doctor's intelligent but somewhat monotonous lectures.

With little more than a moment's hesitation, she dived into the cool blue waters. The CF crew watched aghast - she had forgotten to remove her ball-gown and high heels. Sinking into the deep waters, caught up in her own ball-gown, none of the other crew wanted to risk getting wet (again) to save someone else.

But this time, it was Doctor Sphinx to the rescue. Swimming through the water with powerful strokes, like a steam-boat trying to run down an interloping rower, the allegedly-handsome and possibly-mutinous doctor closed the distance between himself and Lilac. Pulling the noble but ill-fated rescuer from the waters by one of her still-attached high-heels, the Doctor dragged her up a ladder on the side of the house-boat.

None of the CF crew aboard could look him in the eye as he dropped Lilac onto the deck, wet but safe. @DavidFirth looked toward the floor. @Sam91 seemed to be visibly counting the lives he'd used up on her fingers...

as the unable to swim Christine slowly sank into the frigid waters, the thought occurred to her "wonder if our adventures will be made into a movie"

The post above having no mention of anyone saving poor christine40. As she could bear it no longer she nearly took her last breath underwater but the heroic @GreenWizard pulled her to the surface in time for it to be air that entered her lungs.... (thus no longer her last breath, phew a close call for our beloved sister)

As the little green gremlin pulled @christine40 aboard, Doctor Sphinx turned to face her. 'I thought you could hold your breath for longer than that?'

Christine40 shook her head sadly. 'I apologise, Doctor Sphinx. It seems I deceived you in order that you might reward me with one of the legendary yarmulkes you and @Sam91 always seem to don.'

At this, the doctor's face softened, and he handed her a wet but suitably sized yarmulke of special-recognition-for-heroines-in-training.

@Sam91 said pointedly 'I forgive you for destroying our grill. How are you going to replace the steaks that we were going to eat?'

 

[Doctor.Sphinx]

'Oh, that's easy,' replied Doctor Sphinx. 'We'll just freeze some water.'

'Water?' questioned @Sam91 suspiciously.

'Yes, there's plenty of water all around us,' replied Doctor Sphinx cheerfully.

'And how does that give us something to eat?' asked Sam91.

'Well, we're going to freeze it,' replied the doctor.

'But I'll be hungry,' complained Captain @DavidFirth.

'Well, this is a lesson for you in not accusing one of mutiny until you learn all the facts,' retorted the doctor. 'But besides, your stomach is too small now, anyway, since your gastric bypass surgery'.

Samantha was shocked again, took out her bible and read the parable of Matthew 18:21-35....

"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?"

Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times"

23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.

29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’

30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.

32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

'I forgive you for not being my sidekick during our last episode, Sam91', said the doctor generously.

"Umm Dr S, why are you still labouring under a delusion? You are clearly my sidekick. Afterall, you're the fumbling one who always gets into scrapes. So far I have always had the A-game. I need to keep coming to your rescue."

"However, I couldn't have all this class without you so I shall take the opportunity to thank you for your assistance" she added more graciously.

She could almost see the pulleys and levers working in his ancient brain-system.

'And don't think of engineering some situation where I'm the one who is bumbling in order that you can be the rescuer and artificially make me the side-kick. I'll drop-kick you. " <~~~ (obviously not one of her better moments!)

 

[Doctor.Sphinx]

'Actually, isn't it 70 times 7?' asked Doctor Sphinx, changing the subject back to one he was more at ease with. 'One time for every year God forgave the Israelites since the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, spoken of in Daniel 9:24-27?'

He quoted Matthew 18:21 from the KJV 'Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother
sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven
times: but, Until seventy times seven.'

He hoped the little interlude would help his useful but oft-mistaken sidekick @Sam91 forget about the awkward topic of why the hero might make more mistakes than the heroine sidekick.
