except for @gennypearl who had left on her giraffe
the only hope they had was for her to miraculously return and bail them out


they all gathered in a circle and leading the CF crew in prayer was......

While the group huddled closely in the circle for what seemed like hours, @gennypearl suddenly burst through the jail wall like the Koolaid Man.

"Quick!" she said. "We can ride off on my loyal steed George!"

 

[Doctor.Sphinx]

"That giraffe won't fit all of us on its back..." snapped the good-but-for-some-reason-still-upset-about-the-loss-of-his-fine-new-unicorn-horn-nose Doctor Sphinx, "...especially some of us", he continued cruelly, glaring at the small, but obviously obese leprechaun who had recently given up on his old wardrobe and was still in the process of selecting something less prone to ridicule.

"Well...", explained Sam91 kindly and quite diplomatically, "You remember how I emulated David defeating Goliath just before, and saved us quite heroinically, even if I do say so myself..." she went on modestly.
"Heroincally is not even a word" interrupted the doctor.
"Stop being a misogynist", she chided, "Heroinically is the female equivalent of heroically..."
The Doctor nodded eagerly, more concerned about a chance to prove himself to the group than to worry with @Sam91's apparently poor grammar, but even then, the other group members could tell there was a slight hint of envy concealed in his nod.
"Here is your chance to be like Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away in 2 Samuel 23:9..."
The group glanced at Sam91 in surprise, looking for a ventriloquist or puppeteer's hand as this didn't seem like the kind of thing she would normally say. However, when they could find none, and as time was pressing, Doctor Sphinx grabbed the sword she offered him, and committed to using it to hold off the enemy while the others escaped.

"Oh, and Doctor S, if @LaSorcia comes your way, let her know where we've gone" shouted the @GreenWizard as the CF Band, minus their doctor, galloped off atop George the giraffe, into the distance.

"Where is everyone?"

LaSorcia couldn't find anyone and felt all alone and lonely. She sat in the corner and cried, until...

The de-horned, rehorned unicorn came into view. It saw laSorcia and altered to reflect her inner self. The unicorn was now a glimmering white, strong and tall. It came up to her and nudged her gently with his nose...

 

[Doctor.Sphinx]

And said "I have been sent by Dr Sphinx, the great, powerful and legendary doctor, who is the pride of Egypt, and the reason the Pharaoh still rules wisely throughout the Nile regions and..."
"Look", @LaSorcia interrupted, "Its really nice that you're here to comfort me, but I'm sick to death of hearing about this annoying and irritating Dr Sphinx. Can't *you* do something about him?"
The de-horned, but re-horned, and therefore-still somewhat-proud unicorn looked a little confused for a brief moment, but then...

carried on with its speech as if it hadn't been interrupted.

Just then, Dr. S showed up and...

The unicorn turned back into the fat, grey beast. It pawed the ground almost rhino-like and charged at the rather less rugged Dr Sphinx who promptly shot it.

Shocked LaSorcia looked at Dr S aghast. However, as the unicorn died, his nose tranferred back to the mess it had been before..

but the glimmering, white, strong, and tall @LaSorcia....

"What is going on here!" LaSorcia shouted. "Who...what...why???"

Just then...

... Panic struck the good Dr. He immediately ran to the unicorn and started operating, yelling directions to LaSorcia who...

 

[Doctor.Sphinx]

Obediently carried out his orders.
"Scalpel!" he called. LaSorcia handed him a pair of forceps.
"Scissors" he tried instead. LaSorcia handed him the enema equipment.
"Gauze", he cried in exasperation...

Little did he know that LaSorcia had a memory flash back of having her tonsils removed from seeing the surgery and that made her relive the experience of having inhalational anaesthetic, so she was actually in lala land somewhere.

She had a glazed look in her eyes and...

then @Sam91 came to the rescue.
"Look doc", said she, "You've had a hard day, and LaSorcia is clearly out of it. Best leave it to me..."
Sam91 donned her yarmulke of unicorn-surgery-for-dummies, and quickly and deftly set to work...

The operation/surgery/procedure, or whatever it was that @Sam91 was doing, was only moments complete when the Philistines arrived, carrying their weapons of war - plough-shears that had been beaten into swords, and spears, and other sharp and obtrusive instruments not fit for human insertion.
"There are Philistines in this story", questioned @LaSorcia incredulously?
"Uh... yes." replied the doctor, somewhat guiltily. "I was supposed to hold them off whilst the others made good their escape on @george the galloping giraffe, but there were too many, and to be honest, I'm not that much of a swordsman".
"They're really the police" whispered Sam91 as she tapped her head with her forefinger, "but we let the doctor believe what he will because he's madder than a hornet's hat..."

just as @DavidFirth was opening his mouth to defend the good doctor, @LaSorcia shut him up by sticking a plowshare in his mouth and said...

"If Doctor Sphinx is really worth our patience, he will be able to defeat these few measly Philistines. Granted, he still wears on my nerves, but at least he will have found a use. If not, well, who will notice that Egypt is short by one Sphinx?"

With this, she pulled the well-meaning @DavidFirth and the kindly @Sam91 onto the now totally-recovered unicorn, and galloped off into the distance in search of @george and the others...

 

[Doctor.Sphinx]

It was a long and arduous battle - the doctor with his sword against four Philistines with modified, pointy plow-shears. In between some skillful sword fighting and the usual witty insults relating to race, religion and certain initiation rituals (or lack thereof on the part of the Philistines), the brave doctor was driven closer and closer to the edge of the cliff.
"I admit it, you are better than I" he stated matter of factly.
"Then why are you still smiling?" the largest, dirtiest looking soldier enquired, as he drove the doctor ever closer to the cliff edge with his plow-shear.
"Because I know something you don't know", the doctor retorted as he parried a blow.
"And what is that?", the other stated, as he lunged again.
"I am not left handed!" the doctor replied, as triumphant music played from an undisclosed location.
Quickly switching his sword to his right hand, the doctor was able to quickly regain the lost ground. Within a minute, the leader of the Philistines had been defeated and had fallen from the cliff, into the river far below. Seeing their leader defeated, the others quickly retreated, giving the doctor some time to rest.

Far away by now on @Rhino the unicorn as he galloped after @george the giraffe, @Sam91 was imagining what it would be like to have a Sphinx in her museum of taxidermy.
"I wonder if those Philistines would post me the sphinx if I send them a self-addressed envelope" she pondered aloud.
"A sphinx would certainly make a more interesting exhibit than that corpse I've been dragging around".
"Not likely" muttered @DavidFirth, still worried for @Doctor.Sphinx.
"Those Philistines are barbarians. They will make mincemeat of the poor doctor, and probably feed him to their pigs".
@LaSorcia was now secretly wishing she could have stuck around and watched the fight unfold - the thought of all those medieval weapons chink-chinking against each other or possibly the battling men made her heart race. As she thought this, @george the Giraffe and the other members of the CF crew came into view...

Sam91 looked and was astounded. Who was that pretty woman... she looked just like her. Ice flooded through her as she saw her look alike smiling at the group.

"No, that isn't right! How dare she!!! There is only room around here for me. She can't be here, what if they like her more than me?"

If only she hadn't abandoned the good Dr, he would know what to do. He'd help her out. With that she took off. Bridges needed built, apologies made. She hoped that he was okay...
