Hear the voice of the Lord. Hear Him as He pleads with His beloved people Israel, whom He has made covenant with. And hear Him pleading today to His people He has made covenant with.
In ancient Israel during the reign of King Ahaz the people had turned their heart from the Lord and were living as the nations around them. They were caught in idolatry yet sacrificing to the Lord. Here the calling of the Lord to them from Isaiah 1.
2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the Lord has spoken: I have nourished and brought up sons and have made them great and exalted, but they have rebelled against Me and broken away from Me.
3 The ox [instinctively] knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib, but Israel does not know or recognize Me [as Lord], My people do not consider or understand.

Can this be said of the church at large today? Hasnt the Lord drawn each one, one by one, into His kingdom, washed them of their sins by the blood of the Lamb, nourished, taught, cared for us, and set us on high seating us with Him in heavenly places with Christ Jesus making us heirs with Him? And have some broken away? Are some unable to hear and recognize His voice? Have some drifted to place where they no longer consider the Lord or understand? The Lord calls this rebellion.
Ah, but surely in this state they do not realize this is where they are. It is a subtle thing, and a deception of the enemy. Their eyes are closed, their ears are closed and they do not hear. Is it not true that they could not see, nor hear, not recognizing their Master any longer? Not hearing His voice? Are some living today as the world and do not hear His voice?
Israel thought they were still following the Master for they were still offering sacrifices in the temple, but hear what the Lord had to say about that.
Isaiah 1:11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me [unless they are the offering of the heart]? says the Lord. I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts [without obedience]; and I do not delight in the blood of bulls or of lambs or of he-goats [without righteousness].
12 When you come to appear before Me, who requires of you that your [unholy feet] trample My courts?
13 Bring no more offerings of vanity (emptiness, falsity, vainglory, and futility); [your hollow offering of] incense is an abomination to Me; the New Moons and Sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot endure--[it is] iniquity and profanation, even the solemn meeting.

Could any in the church still be going to church as they were still going to the temple? Could any be conscious of the blood of Jesus offered for them, and singing the songs during worship yet still be unholy? Can any be drawing near with their lips while their hearts are far from the Lord? Is this not hollow? Is this not empty? Is it not futile?
Can this be true of one who has been washed in the blood of the Lamb of God? Is it possible? Certainly. If the Lord was not pleased with them when they were doing what He instructed them to do in order to be cleansed and accepted in their day because of the idolatry in their hearts, why would He be any different today? If we count the blood of Jesus so lightly as to also let other things take our affection, which is idolatry, and expect we are A-OK with God just as they, should we think the Lord would be any less displeased with us?
Isaiah was sent to them because the Lord loved them and as was reminding them they would be consumed of their enemies if they departed from Him. The Lord is sending out His voice by His Spirit through the prophets today to call His people to repentance.
Isaiah 1:16 Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes! Cease to do evil
And to the church today
..
James 4:8 Come close to God and He will come close to you. [Recognize that you are] sinners, get your soiled hands clean; [realize that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery].
Isaiah 1:17 Learn to do right! Seek justice, relieve the oppressed, and correct the oppressor. Defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.
James 1:22 But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].
23 For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his [own] natural face in a mirror;
24 For he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like.

He forgets. He doesnt purposely walk away from the Lord in rebellion, he forgets, subtly departing from the Lord.
James 1:21 So get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness, and in a humble (gentle, modest) spirit receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted [in your hearts] contains the power to save your souls.

Let us return giving heed to the Word of God by daily reading it and letting it soak in, affecting changes in our lives. First, let us repent. Come to the Lord and be washed. Only He can cleanse. He convicts of sin and cleanses. He does not condemn. He sends for His Word in love to turn the hearts of men back to Him.
1 John 1:8 If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude and lead ourselves astray, and the Truth [which the Gospel presents] is not in us [does not dwell in our hearts].
9 If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool.
19 If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;
20 But if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.

Eat the good of the land, or be devoured by the sword. Live in the blessing of God, or be devoured of the enemy. Thanks be to God He gives us a choice.
