I have spent the past half hour scooping water out of floods in the road in order to flush the toilet!!
Our water has been cut off due to flooding.
And the advertised public water supplies have not turned up...

All good fun!

no, doesn't sound very fun to me...is this a common practice? I've heard plumbing things across the pond might not be as good as it is here, what with all the old pipes and well, just old stuff in the Old World ya know...;)

Prayerfully they will turn the water back on soon. Other than the water, is everyone okay?

Yes, all fine - but no water yet :(
My husband was in the next county on business today and stocked up on bottled water, so we won't die of thirst! Apparently it may not be back for 48 hours, so please pray for those who are struggling with no heating or sanitation! We've advertised the fact that we have water, so all our neighbours have been round for it. But I'm sure there are some old folk who we don't know about.

I'd rather have no electricity or gas (heat) than no water.

Indeed! Though, since most heating here needs water, a lot of people don't have that either. We are fortunate tho, we have a coal fire in the living room, so we can huddle round that!

Hey!
Good to see you here. :)

That's why I specified how we heat now - the house I grew up in had the old steam radiators and if the water went off - no heat.
