Religioustolerance.org is especially fine because they really strive to remain objective in their research and essays -- which drives many conservatives crazy, since so many of them believe that they, and they alone, are the sole keepers of "the truth".

The Door Magazine (formerly the Wittenburg Door) - a great site for laughs, but perhaps a bit irreverent for some. RIP, Mike Yaconelli! http://www.thedoormagazine.com/home.html

Evangelicals for Social Action--This is the organization that Ron Sider (Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger) works so closely with.

There are some evangelists I particularly like who are committed to bringing the Good News to the poor in the inner cities and throughout the US--Tony Campolo and John Perkins. They both have websites, but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

I also try to follow the work of:

The Carter Center: http://www.cartercenter.org/default.asp?bFlash=True

Habitat for Humanity: http://www.habitat.org/

Amnesty International: http://www.amnesty.org/

And I think every site should link to this one! http://www.thehungersite.com

Oops! Just realized I forgot this one, and it's so timely, too. They got my donation! :) http://www.faithfulamerica.org/home.htm

Best thread ever. I've been thinking about starting a similar one for a while. My default site is The Right Christians ("Christian Right, meet the Right Christians" goes the slogan).

Does anyone know some canonical liberal theologians? (oops, just saw the list above. rad.).

In addition to good suggestions above, I am especially fond of the book Ten Wrong Things I Learned From a Conservative Church by Rev. Dr. John Killinger. He is a raconteur and tends to meander into favorite quotes and stories from his life as a pastor and theology professor, but I like that. Linear thinking is for engineers.

Linear thinking is for engineers.

Hmmmm..... I wonder if anyone has done a study into how many people from an engineering background become fundamentalists?

It's funny how many times people who have a literal view of Genesis, for instance, have an engineering degree rather than either a liberal arts or a "hard science" one.

Mind you, when I was at university, engineering students tended to be into heavy metal and showing off how hot a curry they could handle... :)

There's a wideness in God's Mercy like the wideness of the sea;
there's a kindness in His justice which is more than liberty...
But we make His love too narrow, with false limits of our own,
and we magnify His strictness with a zeal He will not own.
For the love of God is broader than the measure of man's mind,
and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind.
---Frederick William Faber, 1862

Treasure trove of links. Nice.

I think this is on-topic enough to mention in this thread

Christian Existential Humanist Web

That's my own site, and in addition to a basic theological overview it also has some essays about politics and art and science and so forth.

I've been looking for other Christian Humanist sites, but I haven't found many. I've had a little better luck with Christian Existentialism --at least people don't seem to hate the very concept quite so much...

NOTE: I don't have enough seniority to post links, but I think you can reach the site through my profile...
