  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hunter Army Airfield. Savannah is such a wonderful little city, and there's the beach too. We had a great chow hall and being so small, everything was right there.

I loved being in Germany, but I can't say Wildflecken would ever be on any list of favorites.

Patton Barracks - Heidelberg, Germany. Nice city, castle, parks, bad river.

Your post brings back memories. I also served in Heidleberg and it was one of our favorite duty stations. My company was in Patton Barracks but I worked at Cinc Usareur providing commo for the commander.

I served three tours of duty in Germany and loved it there. Heidleberg, Mannheim, and Wurzburg. Mannheim had to the be the best for there is where I got saved in the chapel at Coleman Barracks, and I also received the Baptism in the Holy Ghost out in the field near Landstull, so it means a lot to me. Fat Eagle.

I really liked Langley Air Force Base. Had a putt-putt, go-karts, paintball, and a batting cage. :D Right now I live on Fort Meade....It's boring. >.<;

Langley is a great base. I lived near by and what a noisy place though with the jets taking off, Nasa wind tunnels and the racetrack all withing close proximity.
It was enough to make a person want to move, which I did. Fat Eagle.....

Ft. Leonard Wood and Whiteman AFB for me. I enjoy watching the B-2s practice at night. I also enjoy the activity from the A-10s, F-16s, and AH-64s.

Ft. Leonard Wood??? I was stuck in Ft. "Lost in the Woods" for 2 months doing some NBC training with the USMC and it was the worst 2 months of my military career.

I'd have to say Quantico was/is my fave. Even though I was at Camp Pen and Yuma Proving Grounds for the majority of the time.

We came a hair away from getting FLW, before the Air Force, in their infinite wisdom, moved us 65 miles down the road, to Tyndall. I was starting to look forward to being "lost in the woods", and was a little miffed when it turned around. Hubby promoted himself out of that job, at the School House. But, once again, God has shown me that he is in charge. This move has been pivotal for my boys!

Hickam AFB, Hawaii was my favorite. We had a house on the Pearl Harbor channel. Perfect weather every day.

I'm now stationed at Langley AFB, VA and like it here. Virginia Beach is nothing like Hawaii, but the weather is OK and most of our family is on the east coast. Hopefully the Lord will allow us to retire here (half way between Florida and NY). I definitely don't want to go any further north. :o)

I did 2 years in Kitzingen, Germany (outside of Wurzburg) and loved Germany. Spent a whole lotta time at several bases up there.

However, after leaving Germany, I had the good fortune of getting transferred to Caserma Ederle in Vicenza, Italy. I spent 5 years here until getting out last year and was lucky enough to be able to get a job here as a DOD contractor. I'd stay here forever if I can. Venice is only a half hour away, and most of Italy is a short train or autostrada ride away.

So my vote goes to Caserma Ederle in Vicenza, Italy.

Apart from the lousy barracks the 10th Marines lived in (at least when I was there in the early/mid 80's) it had everything you needed and wasn't very far away from civilization. While I was there they actually polled the base asking what fast food restaurant we wanted built. We voted for Burger King and at the time it was the largest built in the world.

I had to suck sand in 29 Palms CA for radio school. That base was on the outer edge of the world, but after I left I realized that it really wasn't that bad of a place. We were told it was an abandoned army base-guess Navy dept thought it was good enough for jarheads...

Schofield Barracks, Hawaii...the weather was wonderful (except for the Hurricane we had in 1982..Hurricane Iwa), my job was great, and my fellow soldiers were wonderful people to work with..I was there 1982-1985.

My second favorite is Fort McClellan, Alabama (now closed). I was there 1978-1982...it was very scenic, had a small town atmosphere, and was close to a couple of fairly large towns (Birmingham, and Atlanta).

My third was Fort Rucker, Alabama..stationed there twice (1973-1975 and 1985 and 1986). Close to home (about 225 miles) and close to Panama City Florida (about 90 miles).

Irvin, Captain (Ret) US Army
