  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm really not a gym type person.

I love to walk, hike, swim. I might be moving home, which means I have access to mountains much more easily, so will get back into hiking and climbing much more frequently.

I went through a phase of doing dancercise.. which made exercise more fun.

I'm really starting to like any kind of complex exercise that involves 3 or 4 movements before resetting. Like a 5-10 light dead lifts, 5-10 bent over rows, hang clean, 5-10 over head press, 5-10 front squats then rest

I only understood 'squats' out of that post :D

That's ok, no worries :)

Dead lift - bending over like your setting the weight down on the ground and standing back up straight, you may or not bend at the knees

Bent over row - bending at the knees and leaning over and pulling the weight up to around the lower chest area

hang clean - this is where your standing with the bar hanging in front of you, you do a slight dip so the weight goes slightly down toward the knees and then using your momentum on the way back up to move the bar to your chest

over head press - you just press a bar over head without using a dip in your body to help

front squat - bar is sitting on your upperchest and the fronts of your shoulders with your hands under the bar with your elbows high in front and just squat

That's just what they look like, not a good description on how to perform the movements correctly.

I really love planks. After going through a longterm illness I couldn't exercise much at all. Now that I'm well I've been working my way back. I held off on the planks for a long time because when I first started working out again, they took too much strength. I tried again for the first time last week and am happy to report I can do them better and with more stability than ever. Ahhhh, life's simple pleasures!

I love Wholyfit DVD's, and stands as one of my fav exercises. It's a christian alternative to yoga, and instead of eastern descriptions, the creator of Wholyfit recites scriptures throughout to beautiful music. I also like Hawaiian/Tahitian dance cardio, Ttapp, and Urban Rebounding and alternate between them.

Bench press is the one I'm obsessed with the most because I can't seem to get where I want to be on it, but for fun I like basketball. I just don't seem to get the opportunity to get into a good game these days.

Sprinting is one I like to do when I can.

For sure, I am learning more and more the danger of trying to rush through the reps or trying to move up in weight too soon. Once you understand that if your new to exercise or lifting or a specific exercise that your central nervous system has to actually learn how to produce the right movement by engaging and activating the correct muscles at the right time... it makes more sense. I think I slightly hurt my shoulder the other day because I was lazy, didn't notice that I added 35's when I meant to add 25's which added up to more than I've ever lifted. I pressed it 4 times but I was cold and I wasn't paying attention to my form and my shoulder hurt for about a week, nothing serious but it gave me a wake up call.

Definitely need to be warm during bench and keep your shoulders down. You want to be using your chest more during the exercise and not transferring the weight to the shoulders. That's a mistake I've made in the past which has caused me shoulder issues.

Some other things I like to do are just using light weight shoulder movements or cable movements that rotate my shoulders. Gets the circulation going into the shoulder area.

Funny thing too, my biceps have been growing better since I started using lighter weights and taking my time. It's not always about how much you lift, but how you lift.

Check out this page for a great video on proper curl techniques. This video helped me out a lot.
