Hello,

I need help. I want to start fasting once a week. The problem is I love food and I dont think I can go a day without food. I have tried to go without food for a day and I started getting a headache. Every time I go without food I get a headache.

What should I do? My cousin told me to take my time and eliminate from eating 3 times a day to 2 times a day. I have tried this and I have ate only one time a day for a week and everything is fine...its when I dont eat at all that I get the headaches.

Should I eliminate stuff from my diet? I am a Vegetarian so maybe I should eliminate the vegetables from my diet one day a week and then gradually eliminate everything for a day. Do any of you think this is a good idea?? My doctor told me I am very healthy and I rarely get sick....he said fasting will be a good idea for once a week. He said it shouldnt effect my health if I keep eating a well balanced diet Monday through Sat. and fast only on Sundays.

Any advice is appreciated.

P.S. I plan to start fasting on Sunday and see what happens. I will Pray very hard before I fast...hopefully this will go ok this time.

Hey there. The best thing to do is start very slow. Starting too fast can cause more harm than good. I also recommend NOT doing it 3 days per week, as i was told by a Doctor. So, i do it 3 days a month instead.
The day before i will eat light and drink lots of water.
Also, when fasting try to just stay away from foods at first, but continue drinking water until your body is adjusted.
Yeah, Sundays would be a good idea.

To avoid fasting headaches make sure you are not "dependant" on caffeine in any form, and cut out sugar, fat and salt from your diet for two days before fasting.

This has reduced headaches for me to a "background" level, and they are short lived.

In a water only fast the headaches should only manifest towards the end of the first day or in the second day of a fast. So in longer fasts they won't be an issue after that.
