  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There seems to be an obsession with false prophets these days. And usu, a Christian labels another one as a false prophet becos he doesnt like his face and doesnt agree with his teachings.

Anyway, instead of accusing other Christians of being false prophets, why not list down who you think is a true prophet, or are there sadly, none at all today?

----

But to answer your question: I believe that false prophets are not Christians. ie if you believe that so and so is a false prophet, then you must also believe that he is not saved. Why?

Becos the Bible calls false prophets wolves in sheep's clothing. ie they are wolf nature not sheep nature. The Bible is very particular and careful about how it addresses believers, and usu refer to them as "children, sheep, brethren, beloved", etc, but never wolves or dogs or pigs.

So I believe that most false prophets are from outside Christianity. eg Nostradamus. That does not mean that they cannot infiltrate the church. There are also many new agers who predict future events -- all these are false prophets.

The real litmus test is the Spirit of God. 1st John 4 have the qualities of a false prophet is to try the spirit. Are they of the Holy Spirit or do they listen to a demonic spirit? The Holy Spirit always confirms the word of God and most importantly testifies of Jesus. A false prophet will only testify of one thing...self. Just like satan does (Isaiah 14:12-16). Even these false prophets will use lying signs and wonders and may look and act like a true prophet but again through the Holy Spirit's discernment you will notice that something isn't there. I

Will post more on this subject after getting more scriptual references.

stay blessed,

In the NT, false prophets are alway unsaved people who are trying to look like saved people and who are trying to get you to deny the Lord.
There are no saved false prophets. Saved people who are not prophets, who make false prophesies, or who miss it are just mistaken. You cannot be a NT false prophet if you are saved.

You have to inwardly be a wolf to be a NT false prophet.

I recently attended a Bible study at another church and the pastor's wife talked about a particular minister her and her husband know personally, one who is very well-known. He comes across very legalistic to me....Anyway, she told about many bizarre teachings and when he was confronted by some preachers he became very defensive and when asked, could not say that Jesus Christ had come in the flesh...I thought that was interesting. What did they do, I wonder..."And we demand you look us straight in the eye and say these words....." I know that scripture says that will be a 'test'...but I've never actually heard someone try it.

I know that on this board we have 'discussed' (cough cough) various preachers and labeled them as false prophets....but is trying to move in the gifting of prophecy when it's not your gift the same as being a certified from the pit of hell false prophet? How about all the churches that are 'recognizing a form of Godliness, but denying the power' and teaching the gifts have passed....does that qualify as false prophet/teacher?

Well I asked the question before and some seem to feel there is no difference between making a mistake and deliberatly deceiving.

In reality this scenario probably really isn't all that cool, but I think that it is. I always wondered why someone who was a false prophet would not be able to say that. To me you would want to say it if you were a false prophet because you would want people to believe you.
