Please be patient with me; I'm taking baby steps!
I am very glad you're here!

It was a huge revelation to me upon learning about faith/works in Orthodoxy, because I see finally that the two are in no way conflicting.

And the funny thing is, most of my fellow-Protestants (at least the ones I know) would agree. But we have this annoying habit of dissecting and systematically pigeonholing everything about the Christian Faith and insisting on chronologizing... well, you get the picture
This is so true! There is this tendancy to compartmentalize (sp?) our lives, and everything in our lives. I have developed many "faces" because of this, and feel very scattered sometimes...But in Orthodoxy I see the cure for that.

If works are automatic, why does Jesus warn us to keep producing fruit, or we will be cut off and burned?
I would like to go indepth with this conversation, but I do not want to break any forum rules, so I will just say that I believe Suzannah and countrymouse summed up the protestant position very well and that we (orthodox and protestants) are very close in agreement with this theology.

PEACE IN CHRIST!!!

P.S:

I would be happy to discuss it in a PM or on another board...

I read an interesting that dealt with this subject awhile back. The book was God's Stragety in Human History by Roger Forster and Paul Marston. They discussed the issue of faith/works by addressing the fact the early Church never struggled with the issue. The issue only became heated when the Greek was translated into Latin because the Latin implied merit when it spoke of works. I wish I could quote the passage I am thinking of but I don't have access to the book right now

Remind me not to lend my books to people who want to read them!
