Please listen, I resisted the invitation for 8 years, thinking that I had committed the unpardonable sin. It wasn't until I was willing to hear the true message that Christ died for my sins too. Tongues had nothing to do with salvation or the baptism in the Spirit that came after I believed in faith for my salvation. 8 years of pure misery not trusting that I could be forgiven.

My dad took my 2 brothers and I to a baptist church for a few years during my teens but I don't remember anyone really reaching out to me. Letting me know the greatest need of my life was Jesus. I became an atheist for awhile. At 17 I was invited to a United Pentecostal church where a bunch of lunatics ran around screaming in tongues. At 19 I was hitchhiking cross country and was brought to a mission in Chicago. For the first time the message of the Gospel pricked my heart. I prayed and Jesus Christ to come into my heart and save me from my sins. 2 weeks later a young calvinist comes to the mission and tells me that saying a sinners prayer does not make one saved. Only the elect are saved and I began to doubt that I was saved. 8 years of resisting the Holy Spirit later, I was a homeless drug addict alcoholic whoremonger at the bottom of the barrel. God lead me to someone who had gotten out of calvinism and he began to explain everything. Thus began a journey of faith in 1987. I am still learning not to resist His will for my life and obey him at all times.

You received the Holy Spirit in Chicago.
Satan sent a liar to you when you were without knowledge.
I thank the Father for sending the next laborer to you.
It was then that God gave you inrease.
Satan can do nothing without God's permission, and he is such a dunce he didn't know that what he meant for harm God would turn for good.
The Lord has used me to help people that happened too, and to baptize them.
But after he let me baptize, he had me read II Peter chap 1 to them.
Peter gives us the keys to the kingdom there, and how to make our calling and election sure.
He tells us to add some things to our faith.
But if you try it alone you wont make it.
AWAYS remember that Jesus told us to ask our Father for everything, even bigger portions of the Holy Spirit.
I can relate to you. I prayed that prayer when I was 9 years old. I grieved the Holy Spirit for another 25 years before God reeled me in.
Dont be afraid to give God all the glory, and understand that we learn when he does righteousness through us. Isaiah chap 45 verse 7,
7) I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.
