  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"I, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Christ's heralds to publish this everywhere and to persuade all people of whatever rank, foot-soldiers and knights, poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians and to destroy that vile race from the lands of our friends. I say this to those who are present, it meant also for those who are absent. Moreover, Christ commands it."
-Pope Urban II, Speech at Council of Clermont, 1095

"Urban, bishop, servant of the servants of God, to all the faithful, both princes and subjects, waiting in Flanders; greeting, apostolic grace, and blessing.

Your brotherhood, we believe, has long since learned from many accounts that a barbaric fury has deplorably afflicted an laid waste the churches of God in the regions of the Orient. More than this, blasphemous to say, it has even grasped in intolerabe servitude its churches and the Holy City of Christ, glorified b His passion and resurrection. Grieving with pious concern at this calamity, we visited the regions of Gaul and devoted ourselves largely to urging the princes of the land and their subjects to free the churches of the East. We solemnly enjoined upon them at the council of Auvergne (the accomplishment of) such an undertaking, as a preparation for the remission of all their sins. And we have constituted our most beloved son, Adhemar, Bishop of Puy, leader of this expedition and undertaking in our stead, so that those who, perchance, may wish to undertake this journey should comply With his commands, as if they were our own, and submit fully to his loosings or bindings, as far as shall seem to belong to such an office. If, moreover, there are any of your people whom God has inspired to this vow, let them know that he (Adhemar) will set out with the aid of God on the day of the Assumption of the Blessed Mary, and that they can then attach themselves to his following."

It's past ---

I've seen evolution taught as man coming from rocks
Who told you that? Be more precise, please.

the ocean
It's the most likely origin of life.

space seeds
Possible, but unlikely. I'd like to know who taught you that, too.

Since humans are apes, this does not make sense.

We share a common ancestor with the modern monkeys.

orangutans, and chimpanzees
Definitely not. Who told you that?

I've been taught there's a complete skeleton from a pig's tooth
Unless you received your education before 1925, when Nebraska Man was correctly identified (strangely, not by a creationist), which I doubt when looking at your age, you most likely did not.

amino acids in a laboratory from gas and electricity
That is correct. The Miller-Urey experiment did indeed produce 13 of the 22 amino acids found in organisms.

and dinosaurs died out before man came on the scene.
They did.

Something I think the Lord brought to my attention recently, is the fact that everytime someone shows a picture of a cross-section of rocks, or fruit, or whatever --- it has to be interpreted.

I don't get stuff like, "See this rock? It pwns creation."

I get stuff like, "See this rock? It's 90-million years old. Thus it pwns creation."
What do you expect? If the rock is younger than 6000 years, it would certainly not "pwn" young earth creation.

Discovery magazine once pointed out that if you take a rock to the Smithsonian Institution (or anywhere), and ask them to date it; one of the first questions they ask is, "What period are you expecting?"
I bet that the expected period matches the determined age. Then again, I'm no geologist. I'm sure FrumiousBandersnatch or thaumathurgy know more.

He's the official pope of choice for all atheists who want to try desperately to link the Crusades with Christianity.

LOL!

I will go to our History department and let them know that atheists are "desperately" trying to link The Holy Crusades with Christianity!

What will those devious atheists think of next!!??

EXACTLY! THAT'S WHAT CHRISTIANS DO THEY SPEAK FOR JESUS! WE ARE HIS AMBASSADORS! THAT'S WHAT HE MEANT WHEN HE SAID, GO IN MY NAME!

Whoa, no need to shout.

Here's the problem, though: many of what you're calling "Christ's ambassadors" disagree with each other about what Christ really meant to say, and some of them are simply bad people - note my signature.

That's really what drove me away from Christianity: if Christians' actions were truly guided by an all-powerful entity of pure goodness and love, you'd think they'd act differently from the rest of humanity. By all appearances, you're just claiming to be a messenger of God in order to lend credence to your own prejudices.

Drama drama drama. I NEVER said that and you know it! Don't try to put it back on me.

Inan3 said:
As to slavery , I see the same here, direction and protection for the treatment of the slave.

So you call treating slaves well "wisdom", which surely would indicate you must think the speaker was in support of slavery.

I'll grant maybe you didn't mean this. But you certainly did justify the teaching from the bible.

I will gladly admit that when I read someone say:

Inan said:
I never said that I thought another human being should be or can be owned. It was a different society and their slaves were treated well. It was more like job than slavery.

I assume they are justifying the slavery. Obviously I was wrong. So do you feel the slavery explicitly condoned in the Bible was bad?

Clearly if I twisted your words I was unable to figure out your point. My apologies.

I'm not the one who has a persecution complex. Nor am I the one who twists what people say.

Asked and answered, all in the same paragraph!

And I don't take any medicines. I can stand up to facing my own words

Then clarify your stance:

Do you believe the slavery explicitly condoned in the Bible was bad or do you think it is justifiable?

Then please also explain your earlier words:

I never said that I thought another human being should be or can be owned. It was a different society and their slaves were treated well. It was more like job than slavery.

and I can also stand up to you twisting my words. You show me where I said what you accused me of. You know I didn't say it. I don't need to learn how to say what I mean better. You know what I said and it wasn't that I thought people should be slaves.

Well, considering that you pretty much accuse everyone who posts here of twisting your words, I think maybe the problem lies in how you phrase your posts.

Sometimes, when the world seem arrayed against you, it isn't the world's fault.

Just sayin'.

(And please, if I twisted your words, explain your stand on the biblically sanctioned slavery).

She did --- she said it was more like a job.

"Slaves" in the Old Testament were treated better than some employees are treated today.

Can you find a native american leader asking for his people to throw tea into Boston Harbor?

Ya --- he's standing next to the "Christian" leader who is calling for the Crusades.

Are you trying to say that Urban II didn't ask for christians to kill muslims in the holy land? Are you trying to say that Urban II wasn't the leader of the Roman Catholic church, the most powerful church in the Mediterranean at the time? Are you trying to say that all of those crusaders were muslims dressed up in outfits with crosses on them? Please, try to be serious AV.
