Orange mixed with blue makes a reddish mud color. Side by side the contrast looks pretty great tho.

That totally depends on the proportions. You can get anywhere from a burnt orange, brown, gray, to a dull blue. It's one of my favorite portrait palettes as the range is both wide and pleasing. It's cool to see how side by side juxtapositions alter the perception of the actual color.
