"What we want to do is we want to keep it in this country," Mr. Trump said. "China is a competitor, others are competitors. We want to be in this country, and we're making it available. I'm gonna help a lot through emergency declarations, because we have an emergency, we have to get this stuff built. So they have to produce a lot of electricity. And we'll make it possible for them to get this production done easily, at their own plants if they want."

Executives from the companies are expected to commit $500 billion into Stargate over the next four years. Details of the new partnership were not immediately provided.

In the briefing, Ellison said 10 data centers for the project were already under construction in Texas

Seems more like state led investment where the middle class will pay for big tech. Likely this payment will come from higher utility bills among other subsidies. Creating 100k in jobs? I thought one of the best points of AI was to eliminate jobs?
I question too the consortium of companies that are building out this project. I worry they might become the OPEC of AI.

500 Billion dollars divided by four years means 125 Billion dollars per year. Divided by 100.000 jobs equals 1.25 million dollars per year and job.

I'm just guessing that not everyone involved in this job will get one and a quarter million dollar wages, so either money is being burned or most of the money flows to the top of the job pyramid.

I assume a lot is for constructing giganto server farms so mankind and our mammal brothers and sisters can be watched over by machines of loving grace.

Musk bashes Trump-backed AI mega project

Trump said the venture, called Stargate, "will invest $500 billion, at least, in AI infrastructure in the United States."

But in a post on his social media platform X, Musk said the main investors "don't actually have the money."

"SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority," Musk added in a subsequent post.

"Wrong, as you surely know. Want to come visit the first site already under way?" Altman replied to Musk on X.

The Tesla boss and OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, who was present at the White House on Tuesday, have been mired in a serious feud with Musk opening repeated lawsuits against the company behind ChatGPT.

The only thing more heartwarming than billionaires buying influence over the president is having them fight over it like junior high kids.

I suggest that each billionaire builds a giant, ai-controlled killer robot for a battle royale and the last robot standing secures the funding.

How about they each build vast swarms of invisible flesh eating AI controlled nanobots, and have them fight each other.

Invisible? How boring, think about the TV ratings if you have giant ai controlled killer robots fight! I'm sure that when there's something at stake, the billionaires can serve up something more impressive than this fiasko:

That is naive to think that there are no government subsidies on a project that large. Watch for property tax savings, lower electric charges per KW hour, public cost sharing and a whole host of subsidies that will occur. 10 Corporations Receiving Massive Public Subsidies From Taxpayers
I didn't say there were no local subsidies. These kinds of companies don't build anything without some government help (welfare queens they all are). The $500 B claim is about the private investment, and it is an upper limit (an "up to"). When you take away all of the parts that were already under construction (the oracle data centers, etc.) and previously announced stuff it probably won't amount to much.
