Facebook in itself is like fire.
Lol, what a perfect description.
We all need people to talk to and fellowship with, who are our peers
Just think of the reward we feel when we are affirmed by a little perk of attention. It's a little shot of endorphin (or whatever chemical) that makes us feel good. On a viral scale, we feel affirmed over and over.
In church, we sit still and focused on the front. I believe this was designed intentionally, to keep people's attention on God as much as possible.
Think of all the stray thoughts you might have in church --
I wonder if I'll get to talk to -x- after church. Oh look, -x- is here. What a great harmony I just sang -- too bad nobody heard it. Ooh, ooh, I know the answer to the pastor's question. These are cries for affirmation while buried in the crowd.
People can't wait to get out in the narthex and
talk to people. I find that even in Charismatic services where expression is encouraged (reading scriptures, giving prophetic words), people are still grasping to be heard, and to interact. Yes, the Holy Spirit is working in the Charismatic services, but mixed in with the human spirit.
Whether it's a beneficial or selfish need within us, it's there. People need human contact. It seems tied in with the will to survive and progress.
