  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The right has been saying this forever now, but gets mocked. We're told that 97% of all scientists around the world believe man-made global warming. But there's records in the ice and otherwise that tell us there were times when the carbon levels where much higher than they are today, and the earth was much warmer than it is today. The sun and the earth have cycles.

Of course we're warming. We're coming out of an ice age. According to scientists, it was just 10,000 years ago that where I'm sitting in Michigan right now, there was a glacier two miles high. The ice has been retreating for a long time. It's not a new phenomenon.

A lot of us has known for awhile now that they've been manipulating data to support their cause. None of Al Gore's predictions have come true. They keep changing 'the facts', all driven by a multi-billion dollar industry.

Climate change, biggest hoax since sasquatch

Used to be called Global Warming. They we're unable to sell this snake oil as Global Warming. So, now it's called climate change. What a joke!

There is no consensus
The Petition Project features over 31,000 scientists signing the petition stating "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide will, in the forseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere. Realy? DUH!

A few more progressive lies exposed here:

1970 Biologist Paul Ehrlich predicted in the 1970s that: “Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make,” and that “The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next 10 years.”

1970, Life magazine reported, “Scientists have solid experimental & theoretical evidence to support he following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution & by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half

2006 Al Gore predicted that we had 10 years left before the planet turned into a “total frying pan.”

2008, Al Gore predicted that there is a 75% chance that the entire north polar ice cap would be completely melted within 5-7 years

2014 France’s foreign minister said that we only have 500 days to stop “climate chaos.”

Just more proof: The Progressive Fear Message Of Climate Change To Raise $ & Grab Power & Control:

IS THE BIGGEST HOAX SINCE SASQUATCH.

Climate change occurs all the time, the problem is that some scientists are amounting these changes are because of man.

It gets weirder when they say that climate change is the cause for terrorism.

Sounds like the excuse used by this lawyer in defense of his clients who had murdered a female senior citizen:
"They were eating chocolate and it affected their judgment!" How the heck can ramming a plane into the Twin Towers be attributed to climate change?

That plus the many shows, cartoons (Captain Planet anybody?), textbooks, and pictures where marble statues are melting and eroding away, national landmarks like the Colosseum being destroyed by acid rain. Today I don't hear about it at all.

I had heard of acid rain and dismissed it as irrelevant to me personally until a few drops fell into my eyes and they began to burn. As a kid I had let rain pour unto my face with a refreshing effect on my eyes. But this time it was a veritable acid attack. Since that incident I avoid getting the nasty liquid near my eyes for fear of of the pain and possible permanent damage. Not saying it is like that all over the world since my South African girlfriend claimed that she has no such trouble. But here in the USA on the East Coast that has been my experience.

I am sorry that happened to you. I hope my post didn't offend you, as I wasn't denying acid rain existed. I'm just saying the way it was portrayed made it seem like we would all melt and our civilization would die due to it. I'm certain areas of the world, like the east coast, China, Japan, Los Angeles, etc, do suffer numerous effects from heavily pollution, health included. But is it warming the earth? I'm not so sure. It COULD be. We should still pursue improving technology to clean and prevent pollution as best as we can.

These threads are my favourite on CF. Nothing new under the sun. It starts with a conspiracy theory post; then a parade of people making sarcastic comments and whinging about how "the right has been saying this for years". Nobody contributing anything new. Nobody questioning the fact that probably the most disreputable English language newspaper in the entire world is the ONLY newspaper reporting it, nor caring about that matter.

And then at some point, someone who can actually address what is being discussed will post. Then nobody will have anything to say and will forget the 100 other times similar arguments were put forward and .

Climate change, biggest hoax since sasquatch

Oh this should be good...

Used to be called Global Warming. They we're unable to sell this snake oil as Global Warming. So, now it's called climate change. What a joke!

Oh the irony. Whenever I see someone repeat this myth I know we can expect some Dunning-Kruger to follow.
What's the difference between global warming and climate change? | NOAA Climate.gov
>> Global warming refers only to the Earth’s rising surface temperature, while climate change includes warming and the “side effects” of warming—like melting glaciers, heavier rainstorms, or more frequent drought. Said another way, global warming is one symptom of the much larger problem of human-caused climate change. <<

The Petition Project features over 31,000 scientists...

Bahahahah! The Oregon Petition is a joke.
>> Approved names on the list included fictional characters from the television show M*A*S*H,[21] the movie Star Wars,[20] Spice Girls group member Geri Halliwell, English naturalist Charles Darwin (d. 1882) and prank names such as "I. C. Ewe".[22] When questioned about the pop singer during a telephone interview with Joseph Hubert of the Associated Press, Robinson acknowledged that her endorsement and degree in microbiology was inauthentic, remarking "When we're getting thousands of signatures there's no way of filtering out a fake". <<

1970 Biologist Paul Ehrlich

The Population Bomb has nothing to do with climate science.

1970, Life magazine

Popular press magazines are not scientific literature.

2006 Al Gore predicted that we had 10 years left before the planet turned into a “total frying pan.”

Wow, just wow. How ironic that your list of supposed "progressive lies" includes a lie itself. Vice President Gore said no such thing. This supposed quote was from Seinfeld creator Larry David.

2008, Al Gore

Vice President Gore is not a climate scientist.

2014 France’s foreign minister

Laurent Fabius is not a climate scientist.

Climate change does occur all the time. Just not at the pace observed over the last 50 years. And you meant "attributed" and they are correct. There aren't any other factors that are attributable to the recent warming other than human emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere.

It gets weirder when they say that climate change is the cause for terrorism.

"They" so no such thing. What some have observed is that climate disruption in countries which have been a source for terrorism could lead to more terrorism.

Man you're condescending. Do you want to teach and be respectful of things people don't know? Or are you going to pretend like you're the greatest person ever and know it all?
condescending? Did you not read the first few posts in this thread?
I am not kidding when i say this is the pattern of about 80% of AGW threads that get posted. If what i say comes across as condescending, it is doing nothing but describing the historical behaviour patterns of agw skeptics on this forum.

Yes. Im a know it all because i didnt believe the daily mail.

I am in mathematic academia, so I have a marginal amount of freedom to speak about AGW as I want to without too much worry of academic and professional retribution.

I said on another post - in detail- how any model trying to use a millionth of a percent of the data available in a DYNAMICAL system begins categorically flawed.

From there, it is simply a matter of "fitting."

The backlash I got let's me know many civilians are just believing academics, and have not actually studied the fundamentals (besides what has been told to them.) This isn't an insult to the people; on the contrary, the lack of transparency in the scientific community is appaling.

The purpose of a STAYED discovery is to be able to present your data and results to another person in such a way that s/he can follow every step you took, and reproduce the same results.

That is science. But, since science has elevated itself with exclusivity through knowledge and resources, the layperson is left to rely on HUMANS if the layperson does not study for his or herself.

It is appalling all around. AGW is clearly a political agenda, but the scare tactics put in educational programming has made people "certain" of our demise - and certain it is BECAUSE of humans (as opposed to a brown dwarf star, radiation shower, or natural periodic changes.)

I also find it appalling that "consensus" has constituted truth - as in, "97% of the scientists all agree..."

Consensus is one of the worst measuring parameters for reality. Even, and especially in science.

If consensus ruled, we would still believe germs were small demonic entities. If it wasn't for academic and public incredulity, a man wouldn't have had to inject a petri dish of bacteria to PROVE to academics that ulcers are caused by H. Pylori.

If consensus ruled, anyone darker than a manilla folder would still be considered animals - as it was the CONSENSUS in academia at one point.

While i understand your point, im not sure that an entire field of study and its outcomes can be simply dismissed so out of hand.
As for consensus (and your strange examples), was it empirically valid and tested that dark people are animals or was it fear based propaganda from a group that wielded extreme social power? What kind of data analysis was done to support the theory that germs were little demons. I would literally love to read that paper!
