  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You probably already know but... your wasting your time. These guys (doveman, AV, Greg, Dad) have been lectured to for I can only guess a few years. They will not change their mind on their holy book, they are as zealous as the people who flew planes into the twin towers.
Don't make me out to be a monster.

How would an atheist no this? You are being dishonest.

The word is "know' not "no' which in this context has "no' meaning at all.

As for your ridiculous comment it makes no sense other than that you were looking apparently for a chance to speak a falsehood about my character.
Cheap and shoddy of you. i call shame.

Yeah, I gathered they were a bit um... to put it lightly, a bit derp. Lights are on but no one's home kinda thing.
All you are doing is confirming the predictive ability of God's word and thereby verifying its truths: (Jude 10, 1 Peter 4:4).

"These men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand; and what things they do understand by instinct, like unreasoning animals — these are the very things that destroy them." "They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of destruction, and they heap abuse on you."

Prediction verified. Thanks to people like you.
Still, it's funny, it's not as if the whole world's like them. If it was, then we'd have a problem - we'd still be be living in the dark ages, but we'd be getting progressively worse instead of bettering ourselves as a species.

Thankfully their pre-renaissance style of thinking is dying out, even if only slowly.
Had not for people like us you wouldn't be here.

Are you not an atheist? Then how can you claim that God inspired the book of mormon? You are being dishonest.

"Some people will think what's in this book is stupid, and by extension, the believers in it also."

That's not amazing foresight or precognitive thinking. That's stating the obvious.

It doesn't take God's alleged divine powers to realise that a lot of people will think the Bible is full of a certain expletitive.

Had not for people like us you wouldn't be here.
No, I definately wouldn't be here.

I'd be on a space ship, on my way to another planet to start a colony, with my flying car in the cargo hold, or on a relaxing holiday cruise to the Alpha Centuri system and back.

It's people like you that burned down the Alexandrian Library. It's people liek you that branded Galileo as a heretic. It's people like you that hindered mankind's advancement for well over 1000 years. It's people like you spreading nonsense about a 6000 year old universe. It's people like you getting in the way of stem cell research and saving lives. It's people liek you trying to get the beliefs of bronze age barbarians taught in science classes in place of evolution.

So, no, I wouldn't be here, I'd be in a galaxy far far away, soaking up the alien cultures of a different planet on a sightseeing holiday, instead.

You are being deliberately obtuse and insulting.
Obtuse because you cant possibly need every last little thing spelled out for you, and nobody demands it of you when you do one of your enigmatic little one liner quips

As for the insult, it may be viewed as inconsistent for me to speak of god as i did but its hardly dishonest.

And of course, a person who isnt out to be obtuse and insulting could have asked for clarification not just jump to conclusions.

so is the book of mormon.

Which means: it is equally true of the book of mormon.

both books are based on the same claim. You choose not to believe one of them, I dont believe either of them.

it may, btw, be true that there is a god; might even be possible that he 'cannot lie" tho that is a remarkable thing for you to "know' and a remarkable limit on something that can make a universe.

the place where your mind cant seem to go is the possibility that while 'god" may exist, the bible isnt god, and your interpretation is not god either. Claiming you are right because god is right is crapola, and if there is a god its blasphemy of the worst sort.

I call double shame.

AV doesn't seem to mind the comparison. Shouldn't you should be proud of your utter devotion to your religion and holy book. Would you kill for your God if he asked you?

Both the Book of Mormon and the Qu'ran claim to be the divine word of God. Why do you accept that the Bible can claim itself as the word of God, but these books cannot? A bit of a double standard, no?

phariseesplural of Phar·i·see (Noun)

1. A member of an ancient Jewish sect, distinguished by strict observance of the traditional and written law, and commonly held to have pretensions to superior sanctity.
2. A self-righteous person; a hypocrite.

Both the Book of Mormon and the Qu'ran claim to be the divine word of God.
Of course they would; why wouldn't they?
Why do you accept that the Bible can claim itself as the word of God, but these books cannot?
The Bible proves Itself by fulfilling prophecies at -- so far -- a 100% rate of accuracy, and It condemns the other two books ex post facto by exposing their authors as false prophets.
A bit of a double standard, no?
No.

Right, just like your Bible. They all do it because most people are content with reading (or being preached) what essentially says 'everything in this book is true' as all the evidence they need. Thus all three mentioned books are on equal footing.

The Bible proves Itself by fulfilling prophecies at -- so far -- a 100% rate of accuracy,

If I make a 1,000 predictions, and 2 come true, I can claim a 100% rate of accuracy -- because the other 998 haven't occurred yet. I'll make sure to give no dates with my prophesies ether. Or, alternatively I could just write a book 40 years later claiming all of the predictions I made came true. There's no evidence of anything, but as you say - 'evidence can take a hike'.

and It condemns the other two books ex post facto by exposing their authors as false prophets.

Duh and/or hello! Name me a holy book that doesn't condemn the authors of any other book as false prophets. By your logic the Hindu holy books are therefore right because they warn of false prophets. Perhaps Jesus (if he existed as a man) was a false prophet?

No.[/QUOTE]

That is correct.

Nothing gets me shouting in a sermon like preaching the Good Book.
Thus all three mentioned books are on equal footing.
They can't be, as they contradict each other.
If I make a 1,000 predictions, and 2 come true, I can claim a 100% rate of accuracy -- because the other 998 haven't occurred yet.
And if 109 of 333 have so far come to pass?
I'll make sure to give no dates with my prophesies ether.
Like Daniel didn't? when he prophesied the year of Christ's birth?
Or, alternatively I could just write a book 40 years later claiming all of the predictions I made came true.
I'd like to see you (or anyone) try and get away with that.

It won't happen.
There's no evidence of anything, but as you say - 'evidence can take a hike'.
Ain't that a pity?
Duh and/or hello! Name me a holy book that doesn't condemn the authors of any other book as false prophets.
Well, let's see, where to start?

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth...
By your logic the Hindu holy books are therefore right because they warn of false prophets.
They would have to do much more than warn of false prophets to be even remotely under consideration by me.
Perhaps Jesus (if he existed as a man) was a false prophet?

No.
Looks like you answered your own question.

They can't be, as they contradict each other.

Not really. The book of Mormon and the Qu'ran are not mutually exclusive to the Bible. They merely claim to be the final revelation from God.

And if 109 of 333 have so far come to pass?

Well the Gospel writers certainly couldn't have made up enough stories to fulfill all of the prophesies... But they certainly did their best, in an effort to convert other Jews by claiming the prophesies had been fulfilled.

Like Daniel didn't? when he prophesied the year of Christ's birth?

Which passage of Daniel are you referring to? And which date did he prophesy? Even Christian scholars can't pinpoint the Bible's supposed birth of Christ to anything more accurate than 6-4BCE...

They would have to do much more than warn of false prophets to be even remotely under consideration by me.

So what exactly would they have to do to be considered by your highness?

I'm going to conclude this conversation isn't worth continuing on; but for the record:
Not really. The book of Mormon and the Qu'ran are not mutually exclusive to the Bible. They merely claim to be the final revelation from God.
The Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are brothers; and the Muslims believe Abraham placed Ishmael, not Isaac on the altar.

Noah and his crew, nor his decedents would not have been able to survive the massive amounts of poisonous gases spewed out of that eruption.
Check out the length of time the event lasted...
