I used to think that He had to have died on Wed. or Thurs. and had lots of discussions with others about it. I changed my opinion a few years ago.Yea I figured that out thanks, guess I picked up some bad information. There are two explanations that make sense to me, any part of a day was considered a day and maybe, he was crucified on Wednesday. Either one actually works for me, still trying to sort through it.
1. The Esther story made it clear to me that the Jews counted a day as a day and night. Jesus was talking to Jews who would have understood it that way.
2. John said that it was a high day. Without any clear information about this the only thing I could understand this as, taking into consideration the holy days that were happening, was that 7th day sabbath was special because it was Nisan 15, the first day of Unleavened Bread.
3. And most importantly the first day of the week/the first Sunday after Passover, was the day of First-fruits. After sun down, the 7th sabbath ending, the High Priest would go into the barley field and cut the first-friuts of the harvest. This would be processed and an omar lifted up as an offering, commonly called the wave offering/first-fruits. Jesus rose sometime before sunrise on the first day of the week/Sunday. He was the First-fruits of the Resurrection. This day also began the Counting of the Omar/Seven Sundays/50 days to Pentecost.
