  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Exercise during pregnancy

I have read that if you exercise before you get pregnant, you can continue with the same routine once you are. I was just wondering if anyone has tried any pregnancy workout DVDs. I want to start doing one this spring, so when/if I get pregnant this summer I can keep doing the same one....
I also go to the gym 3 times a week and use a cross trainer (elliptical like) or use the stationary bike. Any experience with this, is it still safe while preggo?
Thanks :)

FHL, everything you mentioned is safe to continue with If you've already been doing it before you get pregnant. You have to listen to your own body though, because as your belly gets bigger you may have to limit certain exercises.

Just as an example, one of my doula clients was a marathon runner. She insisted upon continuing to run throughout her pregnancy. No big deal... except that she was Still full-bore running at near term... and caused her abdominal muscle (the one that runs from rib cage to pubic bone) to split. It was very painful, and could definately have been avoided if she'd switched to fast walking or just walked her last trimester. She had a great birth though, since she was so toned elsewhere. :)

I haven't exercised in AGES! I don't really like it. I've never been big, so i haven't had to exercise to control my weight.
But I really want to start walking or swimming just so I am healthier when I give birth.
Its really hard to get going... I don't have alot of motivation where exercise is concerned!
For me, because I don't exercise normally, walking or swimming, starting off slowly and not for long is all I would try and attempt.
