Just out of curiosity, what is a Calvary Chapel, and what makes them so different from the other non-denominational (or inter-denominational, whichever you care to call them) churches like what we have out here call the Union Center Christian Church, or the Endwell Christian Church?
They are just another non-denominational church, there are quite a few of them in the country. They are like every other bible believing church. If you get a chance read some of Chuck Smiths' books, he can explain it better than I can....

I am equi-distance between Richmond, Va Beach, and Raleigh, NC.

Most everyone here is Southern Baptist. A lot of small country "family" type churches with a pastor having several on his charge. We attended one of the more conservative ones for a while. Don't know if I told you this or not, but a couple of the more fundamentalist families kept going around saying we were really still mormons and there as missionaries to lead everyone away. Freaking idiots! I got tired of it and right now we have the kids involved in the "big town" baptist church youth program. It is more social than bible, so we will see how it goes.

The closest Calvary Chapel is just over 1 hour away. Though not completely sold on the pre-trib issue (I don't think it really matters anyway), I enjoy Chuck Smith, the movement, and the praise/worship. Your mixing this with the Anglican structure sounds perfect to me. I am envious! :D

Well, I tell ya what... you move your family out here and you will have have the choice of about 200 different Christian churches. We are Colorado's own little Bible Belt.:D

That is rediculous that people were saying you were still lds. Did you have a chat with those people and tell them "what's what"! ugh! I am really sorry you had that experience, stuff like that really chaps my hide!

Jenda, like OR said, they aren't really "different" than any other non-denom church. One thing I really like about CC is that the pastor teaches through the Bible verse by verse in his sermon's. They start at the beginning of the Bible and they go all the way through it, verse by verse by verse. It's helpful because everything is taught in context and Calvary Chapel pastors also teach the customs of the people of the time that surround the verse so it helps to show why things were done they way they were and points out the corrisponding NT verses that apply to the OT verses we are studying at the time.

I have been to more than a few non-denom churches that I really enjoyed but I finally chose CC for worship because I really like the focus on the Bible, verse by verse and I really like the worship style.

But hey, I also really enjoy the Anglican worship so I just do both. lol

Do they teach the Bible in a class, or from the pulpit? Do they teach just the context, or do they teach the spiritual meanings of the scriptures, too?

Sounds like a good place to go. Sometimes I feel like ditching the Community of Christ because they are getting so liberal and just look for another Bible-based church. I can study the BoM at home or online with friends.

They teach the Word of God, in context verse by verse and teach the customs and going on's at the time period that is being taught, they leave the "spiritual meanings" up to the Holy Spirit to teach to the individual. But the Word of God, in an of itself is spiritual. CC pastors teach and explain but they do not "tell" a person or people that they should interpert such and such a passage to spiritually mean "x, y, z". They very much believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to witness to God's people.

They teach the Bible from both the pulpit and they have Bible sunday school and bible study classes. Depending on where you live will determine how big the CC service would be. Ours is huge but CC's in smaller areas are not nearly as big. Anyway, I really like their services but they aren't the only good Bible believing church around either. Whenever people ask me what church I would suggest, I always say, look around and compare what they teach with the Bible. If it doesn't line up, don't go there.

Calvary Chapel is more of a non-denominational denomination.

I also consider it a "denomination" of sorts. Just for the simple fact that there are hundreds of calvary chapels.
Numbers aside, from the CC websites I've gone to, they all pretty much agree with the same doctrine, which I believe is a stronger case for CC being a denomination. But I don't have a problem with CC calling itself non denominational.

I have never been to a Calvery Chapel Church, but I do listen to a Calvery Chapel radio station, and have enjoyed the teaching and music.

You can check this site, http://www.calvarychapel.com/ , to see if there are Calvery Chapels in your area.

I suspect that there is also a site that you can listen to teachings online.
