If you are unfamiliar with Dr. Hovind's case, he recommends going to Lonestar1776's YouTube channel in order to get the full story on what he has had to endure at the hands of the Internal Revenue Service. He faced three main charges: Not withholding taxes from employees, "structuring" (taking money out of the bank that's less than $10,000, and obstructing and IRS agent),

After nearly 10 years of persecution and the past month of solitary confinement (for no reason whatsoever) Kent Hovind is a free man as of July 8th, 2015. The government abused him, tried to destroy his spirit, dieseled him around the country nearly 30 times over the past 9 years, put him in cells with violent inmates, illegally tampered with court transcripts, and targeted him only because he was one of the only Christians who took a stand for God without compromising. He maintained his innocence for the past decade, all new charges were dropped, the IRS has now apologized for misapplying structuring laws, and very soon all of the 2006 charges will be overturned and Kent will be restored 70x7 all that was stolen from him and his family. This was never about "taxes" and for the past 8 months we've posted hundreds of videos & released scores of documents that have exposed everything that has happened to this innocent man the past decade. Restitution is coming.

Just so we are all on the same page . . .

Hovind did not file tax returns. Period. If this was not true, all he would have to do is produce those tax returns and bank records showing that he paid the IRS a specific amount. If he considered his employees to be independent contractors, then all he would need to do is produce the correct 1099 forms that he filed with the IRS.

Here is the question. Do the Hovind supporters think that Satan magically poofed these forms out of existence? Did Satan also make over 200 withdrawls just under $10K out of the Hovind's bank account so that the income would not be reported to the IRS? More to the point, was it Satan that was sitting on $70k in hard currency at home, but then went to a Baptist based charity organization to ask for help paying the Hovind's medical bills? That's right folks, the Hovind's were sitting on mountains of cash at home, but pretended to be poor so they could get more money.

Also, "During an IRS raid at the home, agents found and seized numerous cash stashes totalling $42,000." Evidence produced at the trial revealed that Jo Hovind had requested financial assistance from Baptist Healthcare claiming that the Hovinds had no income. "'Dr. and Mrs. Kent Hovind do not earn salaries,' wrote Martha Harris, the trust secretary of Creation Science Evangelism to Baptist Healthcare. 'As health insurance is not provided for this couple, we would appreciate (financial assistance).'" However, continues the article, "Kent Hovind, a tax protester, makes a substantial amount of money". The Pensacola News Journal noted, "On the day the IRS searched the Hovind home, Kent Hovind withdrew $70,000 from the Creation Science Evangelism account. Half in a check; the other in cash."

It's a really funny website, one section on it (Liberal style or something) actually lists conservapedia as a source! It used itself as a source!

They're also trying to rewrite the Bible because Jesus is too liberal for their tastes...

Let me set the record straight about the charges that sent Kent Hovind and his wife to prison. I have read the actual court transcripts of Kent's case. Some context, I attended college with Kent. We were best friends back in the early 70's. I know in the hater's minds out there that discredits anything else I say but I am going to say it anyway.

Kent was convicted of violating structuring laws which were designed to catch drug dealers and money launderers. The IRS recently apologized for jailing innocent citizens like Kent who were simply withdrawing their own money out of the bank. In Kent's case it was to meet payroll and other expenses. There are hundreds of people like Kent mostly small business people who are sitting in prison because of this law that has been misapplied to normally law abiding citizens. He was not convicted of tax evasion. All of Kent's employees were independent contractors and responsible for paying their own taxes. The Dinosaur Adventurer land property along with his home which also contained the ministry offices was owned by the ministry not Kent.

On a personal note. Kent did not begin this ministry to make lots of money. This assessment is from being a college roommate and observing his life over the past forty years. Kent is not materialistic. He wears the same four of five suits he had in college. He buys old cars and fixes them up himself. He is the quintessential penny pincher. He and his wife Jo live very frugally. The majority of the money his ministry takes in is used for building projects, producing videos and other materials which are not copyrighted. I know Kent's haters will not believe a word of this but it is the absolute truth!

Let me also add that I do not endorse everything Kent teachers about creationism and other topics but I defend his right to do it. It saddens me about the controversy over his doctorate. I earned a legitimate PhD. and it grieves me that Kent has to continually answer questions about where he earned his degree. Kent could have earned an accredited doctorate but like many others took the easier cheaper route. BTW he did complete actual courses and did not simply send in money for his diploma.

Finally, let me say having spent thousands of hours with Kent and his wife Jo they are two of the most gracious and kind people in the world. Kent would give you the shirt off his back. When we were in college and both working at General Motors Truck and Coach, when he saw a car broke down on the side of the road he would always stop to help, even if it meant we would be late for an appointment. I realize my words will fall on deaf ears to those who have already made up their mind about Kent. The sad thing is their opinions are based on skewed information found on the internet by those who are biased against creationism and have no firsthand knowledge of the facts surrounded Kent's character, his ministry or his conviction. I just wanted to set the record straight on a few things that I believe have been distorted and misrepresented!

I would ask you the same question.

Why wasn't Kent's lawyer able to show his client had been improperly charged, if this was the case?

If the government had apologized to people they had improperly prosecuted, why couldn't Kent's lawyer show he did nothing wrong and appeal the case, on the same ground the other people were found to be improperly prosecuted. He was in jail for 10 years correct, seems like a long time for them to be able to show he was really innocent.

Kent's lawyer at the time of his first trial did not believe the jury would convict him of violating structuring laws. His second trial was on contempt charges because Kent sent a Lis pendens letter from prison telling potential buyers of his Dinosaur Adventure land property that a lawsuit was pending which is perfectly legal. He was found innocent in Federal court which very rarely happens and the charges were dropped. As far as the first case is concerned they are in the process of appealing his original conviction and want it overturned!

Sounds strange, his lawyer did not believe they would convict him of structuring charges??? What kind of defense did his lawyer present exactly? What did the prosecution present, in the form of evidence he broke the law?

They are in process of appealing the first conviction? He has been in prison for 10 years, why did they wait so long to appeal, if he didn't do anything wrong?

Kent was convicted of violating structuring laws which were designed to catch drug dealers and money launderers.

It was also designed to capture tax cheats.

The IRS recently apologized for jailing innocent citizens like Kent who were simply withdrawing their own money out of the bank. In Kent's case it was to meet payroll and other expenses.

Part of payroll and other expenses are payroll taxes and income tax, neither of which Kent paid. He then made sure to make over 200 withdrawls just under $10k so that it wouldn't be reported to the IRS.

There are hundreds of people like Kent mostly small business people who are sitting in prison because of this law that has been misapplied to normally law abiding citizens.

Kent didn't pay his income tax. He didn't even file. He didn't pay payroll taxes like small business people do. He didn't pay income tax like small business people do. He was a tax cheat, plain and simple.

He was not convicted of tax evasion.

Yes, he was. There are no two ways about it. He was thrown in jail for not paying payroll taxes or income tax.

All of Kent's employees were independent contractors and responsible for paying their own taxes.

Then he should have filed 1099 forms, which he didn't.

Why didn't Kent produce a single tax return to show that he paid his taxes?

In reading up a bit on his trial, he and his attorney made some wild claims.

He was not tax exempt, but claimed his revenue belonged to God, which made him exempt from paying taxes. It also appears, his lawyer, did not even present a defense.

You are asking some very intuitive and obvious questions. If you really are interested in taking the time to discover the truth go to freekenthovind.com and you will find all of his appeals and court transcripts. After you do some investigation and read what actually happened I would love to hear your take on the case!

Does this mean you have no personal response to my questions?

I have already done an initial review of the case and it does not line up with your claims. The more I read, the more it becomes apparent, that Hovind felt the law did not apply to him.

And, I would not visit a free hovind site, for objective analysis, for obvious reasons.
