Someone? Well, I'm thinking my oxygen is made by plants, like the ones outside my window, and that plants were around for many years before us oxygen-breathers were. So, we evolved to breathe oxygen because its a good thing(tm).

Becaus evolution does not mean a species replaces its "parent" species. If the Parent species is successful, as well as the new one, it's likely that both will will exist.

They are said to have evolved slower than we did. Human became biped so that rapid evolution could then take place.
