Out of curiousity theistic evolutionists, how long do you think it will take God to create the new heaven and the new earth? Do you think we will have to wait about 4.6 billion years in order for us to be able to inhabit it? Will God 'create' it or will it 'evolve?' Will the big bang have to happen first, or will God speak the new heavens and earth into existence?(when I say speak, I mean it as the Bible puts it, when God speaks it has happened(remember past tense))

I was not trying to take revenge. I really wonder what theistic evolutionists think. If it the new heaven and earth will need to evolve or it will be just created as creationists think. My apologies if I was rude sounding. I added clarification because others have eluded that the Bible does not state that if God speaks it has already happened.

While I may very well be unaware of specific Biblical passages detailing such a process, I do not see why there have to be any restraints on how God brings about a new heaven and a new Earth. Simply a matter of how He decides to do it.
I'll agree with this

I wasn't saying you were.

My point is, the Kingdom of Heaven is right here, right now. Get out there and live it. No waiting!

Absolutely agree - God is the architect of the Kingdom. We're the builders. Let's get on and start building.

God can create anything He wants however He wants to. My guess is that if He is creating a place for those who are living on earth at the time to transition to, and if you hold to the 1000 years post-trib rule here on earth (assuming that you read those Scripture to be predictions of future events rather than events that have already happened in the past), then it would seem that God would create them immediately. I am not sure we have enough evidence on this. We will have to wait and see. But, the point is that God can do whatever He likes.

BTW, godsaves, I think I should thank either you or mhess, whichever brought bluejeans over here. If someone was hoping to reduce the number of Christians who might accept YEC'ism as a valid proposition, they could not ask for more than to have her advocating it. She is inadvertantly the best anti-YEC advocate on the forum!

if you are talking about the eschaton then it is here and not yet here both. The church represents and is enfolding the new heavens here on this earth now as a result of the power of the Holy Spirit unleashed at Pentecost. But it is not yet here, for we know a final judgement and resurrection are yet to come.

so it certainly looks like a process in time.

May I re-iterate that there is no such thing as a TE "position" on any question other than evolution. You are likely to find as much variation on eschatological questions among TEs as among OECs and YECs.

So please treat all opinions given as personal opinions, not as any sort of official TE position on the subject.

Of course. Even thoughts on the creation of the world are different between theistic evolutionists. All of this is personal opinion. I just wanted to see what other theistic evolutionists had to say about the new heaven and earth since they believe this one evolved.

God Bless

It could take a trillion years. It could take a millisecond if God wanted it to. He could do anything.

I like John Polkinhorne's concept that the new heavens and earth will incorporate all that is good in this one. He suggests that as this universe was created ex nihilo "out of nothing" the next will be created ex vetere "out of the old".

So that nothing in this world that is good, and pure and beautiful whether human-made or made by nature will be lost when the new comes in. Only all that is evil will be removed.

This makes sense to me, because I cannot see God's work in this creation being, in the long run, fruitless.

A good fictional representation of this is the final book of C.S. Lewis's "Narnia Tales", The Last Battle. At the end, Aslan (the Christ figure) calls all of creation through the gateway to the new world. Whatever can passes in, whatever is tainted by evil is lost in his shadow. When the protagonists turn around to view the new creation, it holds everything good they ever loved, not only the people (like their parents) but also the places they loved best, the plants and animals, the mountains and oceans and ships and music, etc. etc.
