Interesting ... I didn't know this.
What is the offspring called? Leotig? Tigerpard?
What is the offspring called?
Formally, a hybrid is given the full names of both parents, male first, so a liger is "Panthera Leo x Tigris," and a tigon is "Panthera Tigris x Leo."
Less formally, generally take the beginning of the paternal species and the end of the maternal species, as in leopger or tipard. Since not all combinations of breed have been repeated enough to verify, not all name combinations have been adopted. Even among those that have, there is not always full consesus on how to fit the two parts together. Some people prefer "tiglon" over the traditional "tigon." So whether it it is a tipard or a tigopard or somthing else, people can parse what it is made of.
From the perspective of these "great cats," wouldn't the offspring look like a "crocoduck"?
No. To quote most creationists, "They are all still Cats."
And as we constantly reply, if they aren't, then evolution is wrong.
