Interesting ... I didn't know this.

What is the offspring called? Leotig? Tigerpard?

What is the offspring called?

Formally, a hybrid is given the full names of both parents, male first, so a liger is "Panthera Leo x Tigris," and a tigon is "Panthera Tigris x Leo."

Less formally, generally take the beginning of the paternal species and the end of the maternal species, as in leopger or tipard. Since not all combinations of breed have been repeated enough to verify, not all name combinations have been adopted. Even among those that have, there is not always full consesus on how to fit the two parts together. Some people prefer "tiglon" over the traditional "tigon." So whether it it is a tipard or a tigopard or somthing else, people can parse what it is made of.

From the perspective of these "great cats," wouldn't the offspring look like a "crocoduck"?

No. To quote most creationists, "They are all still Cats."

And as we constantly reply, if they aren't, then evolution is wrong.

So then how much of Linnaeus' ... um ... stuff gets shuffled around the branches like a woodpecker looking for a place to eat?

Surprisingly little. When cladistics and DNA analysis changed our understanding about exactly how we are related, we adjust the tree accordingly. It would be like discovering that your aunt got pregnant in high school, and went away to have a baby, and that you were that baby, who wad adopted by her older, married sister. You fix that branch on your family tree, but most branches are fine.

Most of the fussing with the branches has actually been pruning. When two branches are found when there should only be one, the later one is trimmed, and any information not already on the older branch is added in to the old branch. For example brontosaurus. It is the same as apatosaurus, so its branch was pruned.

Alright already -- I get it.

I just don't believe it.

I think we got that, knowledge for you is obviously something you keep at arms length.

Here's a thought,
do you think that the gaining of knowledge is something that might jeopardise your chances of getting into heaven?

Is "knowledge" just confined to evolution?

Can a Mozart be as knowledgeable as a Linnaeus?

I would have thought all knowledge is useful no matter what the subject, surly the more knowledge we have about something the better we are able to discuss it? I can never talk about stamp collecting because I know nothing about it, if I ever did want to talk about it I would make it my business to learn something about it.

Why do you assume Christians are anti-science? Many of our earliest scientists were Christians who were driven by the fact that because this universe was created by an intelligent God that there was order and relationships in the created universe that were discoverable. There would be no such expectation if the universe were the result of random chance.

Yes, traditionally a zeal for science was triggered by a faith in a rational God and obedience to Paul's advice to study the "gospel of nature." But there has also always been a reactionary movement opposed to such exploration, or at the very least opposed to disminating any new knowledge gained by those explorations to the common man. That for most people, church dogma alone was more than sufficient. And those reactionary forces often used the earthly branches of the Church Militant to enforce this opinion. The Spanish Inquisition is gone, and the Grand Inquisition does not have the sweeping powers it once had, but the reactionary forces have learned more subtle ways to intimidate the sheep among their flocks.

Can a teetotaler disagree with alcohol consumption without ever having tasted alcohol and knowing nothing about it?
If they see some of the problems caused by the drinking of alcohol then yes, can you disagree with the taking of crystal meth? have you ever taken crystal meth?

Why do you feel the need to clutch at every available straw?

I don't, the majority of Christians are not anti-science, however creationists are forced by their beliefs to be anti-science,
which makes their beliefs selfish, ridiculous and anti-American.

Yes, added during the McCarthy years. Now we know where AV's mind is.
