if it were a closed system, then it would be exchanging energy with its surroundings. it is assumed, in the case of the second law of thermodynamics, that the universe is an isolated system. this means that the universe does not exchange matter or energy with another source. this also implies that the amount of work that can be done decreases over time (entropy).

I've developed a rather consistent policy. If there is cold, hard evidence supporting a theory and I am not intellectually qualified to challenge the evidence, I am therefore not qualified to challenge the theory.
Clearly, your scientific education has been woefully inadequate, so I would recommend (at least publicly) a neutral stance on the matter if you think it isn't logical enough for your tastes.

Welcome to the world of faith: believing something, even when science says otherwise ...A valid point. I suppose the Bible is special in that its followers can use it to contradict physical proof right in front of them. If only there were a way to make fundamentalists understand that their book is no more reliable a source than any other book with no references.
