• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, liars that still pull in tons of money tend to get honest people angry.
Someone sounds jealous.

Or are you the [self-appointed] spokesman for those who want their money back?

(Assuming you know anyone who does.)

A couple more things on Kent Hovind. He is an adulterer according to the standards of many Christians here. He got divorced and remarried. In fact remarried in an amazingly short time.

Kent Hovind’s Mistress

When he was going to prison he sold quite a bit of his assets to his son Eric as a dodge to avoid justice:

"Kent’s story is that he left his ministry Christian Science Evangelism to be watched over by Eric. Eric, out of fear that the government might seize CSE’s assets transferred those assets to himself as president of God Quest, Eric’s ministry, for $6,300. Kent says there was $2,000,000 worth of stuff and now he wants it back."

Catching Up With Kent Hovind

This is an incredibly stupid move on his part because he still owes the IRS 3.3 Mil. He could get his ministry back only to lose it permanently. Or if he keeps squawking the IRS may take off of Eric's hands for him.

Amazing! You can't see that supporting a lying, tax dodging, fool is a bad thing to do.

You really should think again when you have to scrape the utter bottom of the barrel for any support at all.

 -- You're kidding!?

That should get the atheists up in arms!

I remember telling someone drinking was a sin, and it was like calling out every Strong's Concordance student in the universe to tell me I was wrong.

Suddenly you're worried about Christian standards?

It justifies your self-righteous attitude towards Mr. Hovind, doesn't it? ;)

Well ... I'm sure all those people who were rooked out of their money will sleep good tonight for some odd reason.

Too bad I can't say the same thing for the rest.

Let's put it this way:

I'd give my money to him before I gave it to you.

Why? We already knew that Kent was a hypocrite. Now it should rile those on your side that take the Bible at all literally. You for example.

And what for what I have seen drinking to excess is thought to be a sin.

But your reaction was rather predictable. It shows that the truth of anything does not matter to you.

That tells us just how wrong you are.

Though I don't want your money anyway. If you sent it to me I would not act like Kent. I would not use it for my own personal wealth.

Justice ... which he got.

But the court of public opinion is still in session, isn't it?

Still though, shooting the messenger to try to quell the message isn't going to get you anywhere.
As I said, if you can set your ad hominems aside, you'll see that he is a rich source of information.

Two things that stood out the most to me in that video are:

1. Don't tell me mine is "religion" and yours is "science".

2. We say all these breeds of dogs came from one species that got off the Ark; but you say they came from a rock.

He's a rich source of apologetics.
Do you want us to discuss Hovind's science?
If so, will you stick to science, the scientific standards?

I happen to believe in evolution. My point is that this does not make me any less of a Christian than a creationist. I can accept Genesis as allegory while still believing in the truth of God's Word and the salvation of Jesus Christ.

I'm not suggesting that we stifle the debate. I am suggesting that believing in evolution and being a true Christian are entirely compatible.
are you still believing in evolution? if so why?

Most likely, because he has no problems accepting the evidence. Problems like, having a prior dogmatic faith-based beliefs that aren't compatible with the actual evidence of reality.

Seeing as how the Torah is a Jewish text, I was curious how Jews feel about allegorical vs literal interpretation of Genesis.

It seems that all but the most conservative Jewish sects are fine with evolution:
Jewish views on evolution - Wikipedia

Even Maimonides, the 12th century Jewish scholar, was cool with interpreting scripture as allegory when presented with scientific evidence:
Moses Maimonides on the Literal Meaning of Genesis

@xianghua - Your profile says you are Jewish, what's your take? Mine is that science suggests evolution occurred. I have no problem believing that God created the universe, used evolution as His tool, and imbued us with souls.

That has nothing to do with Kent Hovind. You forgot his goal. It was to line his pockets illegally with cash.

Yep. Kent Hovind is the prototypical preacher milking the flock in the name of the religion du jour.

He's a con man, through and through.
