  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Evolution is proven false!

Adam and Eve understood right and wrong . . .

They didn't have knowledge of right and wrong until they ate of the fruit. It's all right there in Genesis.

It was the knowledge of "good and evil".

Yes, otherwise known as right and wrong.

Um, not correct. Otherwise a commandment would not have needed
to be given. You act as if Adam and Eve were imbeciles or something.

Yes, otherwise known as right and wrong.

No. Otherwise known as functional and dysfunctional in the original
Hebrew.

William Lane-Craig's argument, runs like this:

  1. Whatever begins to exist has a cause.
  2. The Universe began to exist.
  3. Therefore, the Universe had a cause.
So, what have you got? ^_^

So William Lane-Craig is arguing that Santa Claus caused the universe to exist? Interesting. ^_^

Seriously though, why does the cause have to be a God? The Big Bang Theory seems to cover it quite nicely.

And why, as I'm guessing Mr. Lane-Craig argues, does it have to be the Christian God? And what caused God to exist?

Check the other planets, my friend.
The rest of the cosmos follows he rules that exterminate life
in a new york minute.

Astronauts did just fine on the moon when they visited there.

No rules were activated such that they had to die there.

I enjoy food, especially garden fresh food. Even if I'm not hungry
I can enjoy food that I've grown. Working the soil is good for the
soul as well.

Wow. So, despite not needing to eat, God provided them with a working digestive system so they could farm fresh fruits and veg...

... and luckily it came in handy when God punished them with mortality.

Now either God got lucky and gave them something that they'd just happen to need, or God knew that all this would happen before he ever created them and still created them anyway.

I'm sorry, but both of these explanations seem rather far fetched to me...

"And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” Genesis 3:22

It clearly says "man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil". This means that they didn't know good and evil before, so couldn't know that eating of the fruit was evil.

No. Otherwise known as functional and dysfunctional in the original
Hebrew.

Well you see, Craig would claim God always existed, so God gets the advantage of a special pleading and is not subject to the rules Craig presents.

Best way to sum this up; this is what you get, when you start with a belief and go scrambling for ways to substantiate the belief, vs looking at the objective evidence and reaching a conclusion on the same.

Of course it would happen. With free will and a tempter it is bound to
happen in some cases.

All God had to do was not put the forbidden fruit in the garden to begin with. When we put little plastic inserts into wall sockets so that toddlers don't shock themselves to death, are we taking away their free will? When we lock up guns in a safe so that 8 year olds don't play with them and shoot themselves, are we taking away their free will?

Why are you mentioning toddlers?

In order for Adam and Eve, full adults, to have full free will, they needed
to have a choice. Contrary to what you might think, they knew fully well
what right and wrong was and had the choice to not eat the fruit.

Why are you mentioning toddlers?

Toddlers are examples of humans who have no sense of right and wrong, just like Adam and Eve.

In order for Adam and Eve, full adults, to have full free will, they needed
to have a choice.

They weren't full adults. They had no sense of what is right and wrong.

Contrary to what you might think, they knew fully well
what right and wrong was and had the choice to not eat the fruit.

Then you disagree with the Bible.

Correction. You disagree with the bible and are twisting it to say what
you want it to say. A common tactic with unbelievers.

Right and wrong is not mentioned there at all. In the Hebrew or the
English translation.

Let's just experiment and see if "good" really means "right".

"And God saw the light, that is was" right. (morally or socially acceptable).

"And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very"
right. (Morally or socially acceptable.)

I really think you need an English dictionary.

Based on astronomical observations, what is said to be the sum of energy contained within the cosmos? Citation, please.

"Based on observations" there is no clear answer
because observations suggest that up to 90%
cannot be seen.

But limited to what we can see, here are estimates of the mass:
Mass of the Universe

To convert that to energy multiply it by the speed of light....squared.
(One of the estimates is infinite mass)
How to Understand E=mc2: 3 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow

That will give you Joules.
A Joule would be a 100 watt light bulb left on for 1/100 of a second.

We don't know the workings of Adam & Eves's digestive system or even the nature of food in Heaven. A literal reading suggests that "food" is both physical and metaphorical at the same time.

One illustration of that would be what you experience in a dream state where things seem perfectly normal to you in your dream even as they change form form one "scene" to the next.

But closer to your topic, God sees the past, present, and future all as one event. Everything you "see happening" is already a known event for God.

Knowing the past, present, and future at the same time is not really conceivable by humans.

I'm sure your aware that we took a bubble of our earth environment with us
so we didn't have to deal with heat, cold, vacuum, radiation, etc.
It's not friendly to life

as the best minds in the world thought it was. Are you among them?

You mean there are naturally occuring environments where life is able to exist in accordance to the laws of physics?
