  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Um... You do realize it's not chance, right? If I drop a ball, there are infinite directions that it could theoretically fall... But in reality, it will always fall in a direction dictated by gravity. It's not some impossible chance that when I drop a ball in the same place, it falls in the same spot every time, even though it could have fallen in any number of virtually infinite directions - it's merely a matter of the ball heeding to the laws of the universe. Simply put, it's not random. There is nothing random about how a human body is put together, any more than there is anything random about how gravity will tug a falling object.

So there is a guiding external force involved in evolution?

I'm sorry, but I thought you were claiming that Chrisitainity makes you live longer because of the Christian god's help. Your sources claim that spirituality helps one live longer, whcih doesn't even require belief in a god. Even just meditating. What does any of that have to do with your earlier claim?

well what can I say .. (without turning it into a creation vs evo .. thread which is in the wrong area )
evolution is a theory.. it is rather loosely based on "Some" small amount of fact and a large amount of conjecture and assumption . and facts do not automatically equal "truth" ..
-as i say so often .."Example : it is a fact that a man can tell me a lie . "
What conjecture and what assumption?

Another casualty of poor mathematics and sex education.

God planted a garden in Eden. He provided a food supply. From the beginning they were not happy with the food they were given. Eve wanted to eat from the forbidden tree.

The garden of Eden was only meant to sustain them until the scenario of the fall played itself out. After they were escorted out of the garden they had to raise their own food; something animals don't have to do. My point is that man is the only 'evolved' creature that has to produce his own food; a monumental failure of evolution that is unique only to man.

The garden of Eden was prepared by certain people of the fallen earth in preparation for the promise of the arrival of Adam and Eve. The crafty beast or "Prince of this world" then set his sights on Adam & Eve managing outflank and convince Eve to insert her own will or plan into "world saving" leading to default of their mission of redemption. The sin was more than eating fruit.

That's not actually true. But even if it were, so what? Humankind is "special" in one significant aspect, and decidedly ordinary in numerous others, just like many other species of animals who fit into a specific niche.

Also, I just realized I responded to this quote in the wrong thread.
Man is the only creature that evolved without a suitable food supply evolving at the same time to feed him.

Cite please? Many times, significant changes are driven by a creature's food source being depleted or their environment becoming too competitive or otherwise unliveable, and them needing to adapt to a new environment.

So there is a guiding external force involved in evolution?

Well, the way the human body is put together in the womb is sort of stretching the bounds of what "evolution" is defined as, and calling the laws of physics and chemistry "guiding external forces" as though they implied some intelligence is sort of a misinterpretation of what I was saying.

Let me guess, this fable was written by a man? :)

Well, how about the fact that something has never been observed to come from nothing, so where did all the matter from the universe come from if not from God?

Boy did the Bible nail that in 1Timothy 6 or what ! to think 2000 years later no one has really evolved at all not even a new tactic !
Might be even more poignant is we actually knew who the author was. Meh.

^ it's better to propose the universe recycles itself and all the matter in it and restarts rather than saying god did it.
There is factual basis to that more than god. In fact so much factual basis its actually true. And it would make perfect sense nothing or anything for that matter can keep expanding forever. http://phys.org/news/2015-03-universe-brink-collapse-cosmological-timescale.html
