Evil spirits/demons

How much are demons/evil spirits at fault for tragedy, disaster, and misfortune?

  • All tragedy, disaster, and misfortune is due to demons and can be stopped by rebuking them

  • All tragedy, disaster, and misfortune is due to demons and can be stopped if we have enough faith

  • All tragedy, disaster, and misfortune is due to demons and cannot be stopped

  • Most tragedy, disaster, and misfortune is caused by demons, but there are occasionally other reasons

  • Most tragedy, disaster, and misfortune is due to demons, but other reasons can be safely considered

  • Some tragedy, misfortune, and disaster is due to demons, but other causes are more likely and should

  • Some tragedy, misfortune, and disaster is due to demons, but other causes are more likely and should

  • No tragedy, disaster, or misfortune is due to demons, it is all by natural/explainable causes

  • No tragedy, disaster, or misfortune is due to demons, it is sent by God in accordance with His will

  • No tragedy, disaster, or misfortune is due to demons, it is sent by God as punishment for sins

  • No tragedy, disaster, or misfortune is due to demons or the direct act of God: all bad things are ca

  • I don't believe in demons-those passages were metaphor or referred to other things

  • Don't know/confused

and I know that demons are real, because you can't have the authority to cast out something that is not there... Matthew 10:1

T Lynn... honest question... when's the last time you read the New Testament gospels? Because there is no way that you can read them and not know... I mean you say you are Christian... but what "enemy" did Christ defeat? Did He defeat a myth? I don't understand how you can read a Bible, believe in Christ, and not believe that there are such things as demons. That confuses me...

Yes, Blindfaith, please share.

I know that demons exist and also that as Christians we have authority over them.

Regarding Christians being demonized: often when we first come to the Lord we bring a lot of baggage with us that is there because of the stuff we were involved in before we met Christ.  And sometimes we get involved with things that are demonic even after we accept the Lord.

When we allow some things into our life that should not be there, we can repent and be forgiven but the demonic forces that are part of that baggage do not necessarily just pack their stuff and leave. The person has a new heart that is clean and made white as snow, but demonic forces can still be hanging on. . . Creating struggles in areas of sin that will keep that Christian in bondage.  This is not to be confused with demon possession. It is not the same.

Belivers have authority over demons and they can be cast off. I know from experience.

1 John 5:

18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

I'm sorry A Sheep, I'm not quite sure of the emphasis you are making.  :)

The evil one cannot harm.  However, if we lay ourselves in his path by living in sin, then we can expect trouble.  Again, this has nothing to do with possession.

Hi everyone!  Sorry I haven't been back here today, but I had a series of tests that needed to be run, so this is the first opportunity I've had to get on :)

Okay.  When I first became a true Christian, 5 years ago, my daughter who was 9 at the time and I had an experience with a "not-so-pleasant" spirit when my husband was working that particular night (Wednesday..I'll never forget).

As I said, I had become a Christian within a couple of months of this, and involved in church, and a neighborhood bible study.  One night, before hubby came home from work, I was in a deep, sound sleep.  For some "odd" reason, I woke up, not groggy, but wide awake, and felt a very cold, dark, and despairing presence.  It was aweful!! My door was opened about 6", (because we had two babies and I needed to hear them at night:)), and I saw a person in the doorway, but it wasn't "solid".  He (and it looked like a male) was like a transluscent person cloaked completely in black.  He looked to be appx 6'4" or so, based upon what I look like in the doorway at 5'9".   Not completely solid, but everything was very well defined.  The hat, face, nose, cheeks, chin, mouth, body, everything!  Large, strong and "powerful".  He was in stark definition, and everything was outlined, and perfectly defined.  I couldn't see any eyes, but the eyesockets were there.  I couldn't see any teeth, but the mouth was there.

I'm so sorry I can't describe "it" better.

Anyway....I thought "okay...let's be rational...maybe I'm dreaming...I'll take a deep breath, count to three, then open my eyes again".  Did it, still there. Thought to myself...."okay....my hubby isn't here, and there's a rapist in the house.  What do I do?  I'm not worried about me, but my 4 girls in the home.".  I swear, I'd fight to the death to protect my daughters.  Anyway....I said to myself again..."okay....on the count of three, throw on the lamp and attack in some way.".  I counted to three, threw on the lamp, and bingo.  Nothing.  No one there.

But I'll tell you what.  I've never felt anything so dark, despairing and oppressing in my entire life! I cannot even describe what the oppression on my soul was like ~ I've never felt anything like it before, even before I was saved.  It was like this "thing" took my soul and brought me down.  The promised Hope that I had in my soul had been hampered with and tested...the Faith that I cherished and was nurturing through God's Grace was (attempting) to be ripped apart.....I can't even describe the feeling I had.  Oppression.....that's the best way to describe it.  Anyway.....

I went to the kitchen, after making sure the baby's were okay and everyone was safe, and called my husband at work telling him to get home immediately.  My 9 yr old came upstairs and asked me what I was doing up.  I said I was getting a drink of water..."what are you doing up"? (trying to act like it's normal to be up very late at night  ::rollseyes::)   She gave me a play by play, of the exact thing that happened to me, but had happened to her, but with a "person" that was only appx. 3' high.  When she renounced him in the name of Jesus, "it" went through the wall and left.  "It" has been back to "visit" her 3 other times, within 5 years.  She's a good girl though, and knows what's what.  She has faith in Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior. :)

A week after this happened, I came across a wonderful woman a state away, who I totally and completely believe was an angel here on Earth to help....if you want to know about this, let me know :)

Good morning Quaff!  How are you doing?  Well I hope :)

Okay.  After all of this "stuff" happened, we were getting ready to travel with the kids back to ND.  A friend of mine in bible study gave me her book by Frank Peretti called 'Piercing the Darkness' (I think that's the one...it was the first one).

Anyway......the first day we travelled and stopped in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho at a hotel, and the kids wanted to go swimming.  Hubby and I got them ready, and headed down to the pool, which was packed to the gills.  There was no place for me to sit down and read my book, and then I spotted this lady sitting by herself.  I couldn't understand why people were sitting up against the wall and not sitting next to her.  ::shrug::  No problem for me, I'm not shy ;).

There was something about her that just touched me ~ I asked her if I could sit at her table, and she very kindly said "yes".  I set the book upon the table to watch hubby with the kids in the pool, and she asked me, "so, how do you like the book so far"?  I was kind of surprised, but said that I was really enjoying it.  She asked me, "is there a specific reason why you're reading it"?  I thought to myself, either this is really weird or by divine intervention.  Being the shy person I am , I told her what happened, and I thought I sounded like a kook.  She was very patient, very kind, and listened to every word without telling me I needed to be in a straight-jacket.

She told me that many things such as this happen, because we're dealing not with the things we only can see, but with the principalities all around us.  She asked me how long I had been a Christian, I told her, and she said that since I was so new to my faith and Satan was surely very mad about this, he set out to "attack" me, and my daughter who also was a new believer.

By the time we were done talking, and the kids were ready to go up to bed (hubby too..they wore him out), I felt such a deep calm and peace, that I can't begin to describe it.  I really feel like God sent this woman to reassure me.

That's it!

Oh goodness people I never thought so many people had that happen to them.

Thanks BlindFaith I never knew this happened in your life, remember when I did some post at another place and they acted as if I had a plague.

This may sound weird but when my faith gets low and I even question if there is a God.

I remember these things that has happened and it restores my faith in God.

Does this make sense at all?

Pleading the blood of Jesus works in dangerous situations.

I am glad I came on this thread because I don't have to feel alone.  Evee   Demons are real.

Thanks Blindfaith, I am doing well.  And thanks for the story.  I've had similar events in my life too.

Hey blindfaith... have you ever thought that it was kinda interesting that when you threw the lamp at it (a producer of light) that it went away?

Jesus is the light of the world right? Somehow I think your daughter did the same thing. You threw physical light, and she threw spiritual light. I noticed it. Maybe something you can think on...

Hey guys!!  Thanks for responding.  This type of testimony in the "world" is not always well received ;).

When my "thing" happened, it happened to my daughter at the exact same time.  I attribute that to nothing less than spiritual warfare.  And do you know how my daughter and I feel about it?

Bring it on.

Because we are saved by the blood of Jesus.  Because of Him, we can overcome all ~ the Lord God Almighty can defeat any enemy that may come to us.  She has been visited by the same "spirit" a few more times, but I think it's because she's stuggled (she's a very young teen).  We just keep pressing on, striving in the race that Paul admonished us to race, to the finish line :)

God is Good, all of the time!  If He is with us, who can be against us?   No one!!

Praise the Lord

Andrew ~ would you mind sharing your dreams?

Quaffar ~ would you feel comfortable sharing?

Sbb ~ I never put the light of the lamp to equal the light of Christ together ~ that's certainly something to think about!!  Thanks for bringing that to my attention :)
