You'd be surprised. I've seen arguments for it in parts of this message board. Syncopation, backmasking, demonic forces in the chords of the electric guitar...it really is ridiculous that those ideas still exist. I find it even more ironic that some Christians hold onto these superstitions despite the number of Scriptures that condemn superstitions. Of course, that didn't stop anyone from thinking organ music was of the devil, or that cats were of the devil, or that witches were afoot in Salem, and I guess that some people's bubbled-in lives would burst if they found out that those things weren't true. And to hide the fact they believe in a superstition they try to make it look 'scientific'.The Meaning Of... said:I think the most commonly probed part is it's lyrics. For instance the whole sex, drugs, and rock and roll attitude often displayed in lyrics. However, I don't think many christians think a sound can actually sound evil, unless they're really really dumb.
And would you admit that songs with lyrics that promote such behaviour is offensive (actually, a song about microwaving a hamster seems like it would be quite funny, but that's just my sense of humour)? Granted, I know there usually requires some discernment between when someone is "supporting" those things and when they do it for shock value or just to get a point across in some fashion (i.e. metaphorical use). There are quite a few subjects that people, regardless of religion or creed, find offensive. How would a victim of rape respond to a song that 'promotes' it? I would imagine they would be very offended, and rightfully so.Big_Blue42 said:evil is killing someone.evil is rape.evil is microwaving a hamster[not that i know anything about that]thats what evil is.

what do you mean how did he get on the list?he is[WAS]early rock[very early]
The excuse given for that particular argument has to do with a verse that states that anything that isn't for God is against Him (can't remember the exact verse, but it's not even referring to music...something that, IMO isn't so cut-and-dried). And since Christian music is obviously 'for', that means that anything that doesn't even mention God is 'against', regardless of how many songs don't talk about anything that contradicts Scripture (or for that matter, what exactly is the proper definition of 'Christian music'? No one I've posed this question to has given a definitive answer). I'm sure it's a logical fallacy of some sort, but I don't know which one it would be.The Meaning Of... said:Having secular lyrics makes you no more evil than standing in a garage makes you a car.
