  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Evanescence is what we Americans had for symphonic metal back in the day, even as Europe was blossoming with bands like Nightwish, After Forever, Within Temptation, The Gathering, and Tristania. Amy Lee is a marginal talent compared with Floor Jansen, Vibeke Stene, Anneke van Giersbergen, or even Sharon den Adel (not to mention Simone Simons and Tarja Turunen) - my favorite of the scene is Floor Jansen.

I remember how good the Fallen album was when it came out. It was really revolutionary to mid-westerners like myself who had not been exposed to that style. It was the gateway that led me to better symphonic metal. My classmates at preaching school and I blasted the songs in my car in the summer of 2003.

There is certainly some religious motif to many of the lyrics from Fallen. This lessened and vanished in the later work of Evanescence.

I agree with you and have had similar experiences. I think Amy Lee has the capability to sing classicaly (witnessing her E6 in a warm up) but she never has showcased it really.
