I had a question about eternal security. My church teaches that you have it while others don't. I was wondering what you guys thought and why.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.~WildRoseCowgirl~ said:I just thought of something concerning the subject.... My belief of salvation is that when you are repentant of your sins and trust in Jesus to take you to heaven, youa re saved. But I was thinking recently that what happens if you are saved in the way I said above, and then you stop trusting in Christ to take you to heaven. What happens then?
I think you have forgotten an important element. One has to make Jesus their Lord.~WildRoseCowgirl~ said:I just thought of something concerning the subject.... Indeed "Lordship salvation" is an idea that has cropped up in the past decade or so. It's a good idea depending, like much else, on how far you take it. You can push it too far, as I have heard on occasion.Blackhawk said:I think you have forgotten an important element. One has to make Jesus their Lord.
Note the verses just quoted by someone else but in the NASB.
Rom 10:9-10
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus {as} Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved;
10 for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
(NAS)
I think this version reflects what is being meant more clearly. It is about accepting Jesus as ruler of your life. One has to become a slave to Christ so that they can be set free from sin.
So if they do fall away then one has to wonder if they had ever really made Jesus their Lord.
You are right. I was just trying to show that making Christ ones lord is an essential part of salvation. I think the bible does not acknowledge that anyone can be saved without Christ as their Lord.BT said:Indeed "Lordship salvation" is an idea that has cropped up in the past decade or so.
