Eschatology Forum Statement of Purpose

I. Address the post and not the poster
  • Address the content of the post and do not specifically attack a member or group of members.
  • Goading posts are intentionally or unintentionally baiting other members into responding with a flame.
  • Depending on context, the use of smilies may come across as flaming or goading.
  • It is not a flame for a member to disagree with another member's argument or opinion on a specific topic.
When you Disagree:

Members who participate in the Eschatology Forum are expected to treat one another with courtesy and respect at all times, ESPECIALLY when you disagree with each other.
  • When you disagree, address the content of the post and not the poster.
  • When you disagree with someone's position, you should post evidence and supporting statements for your position. This policy, sometimes referred to as "X means Y because of Z", must be followed especially when posting claims that are widely considered to be controversial.
  • When you disagree and you find yourself becoming frustrated and angry, step away from the computer and give yourself time to cool down.
  • Always proofread your post before hitting the "Reply" button to make sure you have responded with courtesy and respect.

II. No flaming opposing theological views

The Eschatology forum is for discussing and debating the various theological viewpoints of biblical end times events. All members who participate in Eschatology are self-identified Christians through adherence to the Christian Forums' Statement of Faith and the Trinitarian nature of God. It is expected that people who post in the Eschatology forum will respect all members of the Christian faith.
  • Always remember that you are first and foremost brothers and sisters in Christ, regardless of your theological differences on the topic of end time events.
  • If you would be offended by a word or phrase applied to your theological viewpoint, then someone of the opposing viewpoint would be offended as well.
  • Do not identify a specific member, or a group of members, or a theological viewpoint with a derogatory or inflammatory label.
  • Do not use words or phrases which other members have indicated are offensive and derogatory.
  • Words and phrases which have a negative connotation in Scripture should not be used to describe a member, group of members, or a theological viewpoint.

    • Examples (including but not limited to): false gospel, false prophet, heretics, blasphemers, evil, sheep in wolves clothing, different God.

III. Thread Tags:

Please consider using one of the thread tags located next to the thread title box when you start a new thread. A drop down menu will give you quite a few options to choose from. Please respect the thread tag that the original poster (OP) has chosen for their thread. Ignoring a thread tag may result in your post being reported and potentially actioned by staff.

IIII. Eschatological Viewpoints Allowed on CF

  • Futurism: Futurism is the eschatological viewpoint that interprets portions of the Book of Revelation, the Book of Daniel, and other prophecies, as future events in a literal, physical, apocalyptic, and global context.
    • Pre-tribulation: The pre-tribulation position advocates that the rapture will occur before the beginning of the seven-year tribulation period, while the second coming will occur at the end of the seven-year tribulation period. Pre-tribulationists often describe the rapture as Jesus coming for the church and the second coming as Jesus coming with the church.
    • Mid-tribulation: The mid-tribulation position espouses that the rapture will occur at some point in the middle of the tribulation period, or during Daniel's 70th week. The tribulation is typically divided into two periods of 3.5 years each. Mid-tribulationists hold that the saints will go through the first period (Beginning of Travail, which is not "the tribulation"), but will be raptured into Heaven before the severe outpouring of God's wrath in the second half of the tribulation.
    • Post-tribulation: The post-tribulation position places the rapture at the end of the tribulation period. Post-tribulation writers define the tribulation period in a generic sense as the entire present age, or in a specific sense of a period of time preceding the second coming of Christ. The emphasis in this view is that the church will undergo the tribulation even though the church will be spared the wrath of God.
    • Pre-wrath Tribulation: The pre-wrath tribulation position states that Christians will be raptured sometime during the tribulation that occurs in the second half of the 70th week of Daniel, and before the day of the Lord's wrath. The pre-wrath position emphasizes the biblical distinction between tribulation (which Christians have been promised) and the wrath of God (which Christians have been promised deliverance/salvation from).
  • Historicism: in Christian eschatology is a method of interpretation which associates biblical prophecies with actual historical events and identifies symbolic beings with historical persons or societies. The main texts of interest are apocalyptic literature, such as the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation.
  • Idealism: (also called the spiritual approach, the allegorical approach, the nonliteral approach, and many other names) in Christian eschatology is an interpretation of the Book of Revelation that sees all of the imagery of the book as symbols.
  • Partial Preterism: Partial preterism holds that most eschatological prophecies, such as the destruction of Jerusalem, the Antichrists, the Great Tribulation, and the advent of the Day of the Lord as a "judgment-coming" of Christ, were fulfilled either in AD 70 or during the persecution of Christians under the Emperor Nero. The Second coming and the resurrection of the dead, however, have not yet occurred in the partial preterist system.
Millennialism:
  • Amillennialism: "no millennium", rejects the theory that Jesus Christ will have a thousand-year-long, physical reign on the earth. The amillennial viewpoint holds that the thousand years mentioned in Revelation 20 is a symbolic number, not a literal description; that the millennium has already begun and is identical with the current church age.
  • Premillennialism: is the belief that Jesus Christ will literally and physically be on the earth for his millennial reign at his second coming. The doctrine is called premillennialism because it holds that Jesus' physical return to earth will occur prior to the inauguration of the millennium.
  • Postmillennialism: is an interpretation of chapter 20 of the Book of Revelation which sees Christ's second coming as occurring after the "Millennium", a Golden Age in which Christian ethics prosper.
V. Additional Rules
