Pretty big "mind change". He should have closed the poll the INSTANT he "changed his mind", and apologized and said he's changing it regardless. But, he didn't, did he? He just let it continue as if it meant something.

That is right. In fact, he even opened a "What would option 3 look like?" Eventually, he did post that ultimately the decision would be his, but it did not garner the attention that the first two announcements did.

I am very pleased with the change. CF stopped being distinctively Christian on 777 and I was insulted that it carried the name of my Lord.

OK blast me.

I agree, as I said in another spot, around here: He just changed the outside of the site, to match what had already been done to the inside of the site.

Well, lets just think about this for a minute.

When we go Christmas shopping, and the stores say, "Happy Holidays", have they succumbed to commercialization or are they reflecting what has happened in the world?

The problem I have with the change is the removal of Christ from the name.

I realize that CF is not a church, but if it were your church, and the pastor changed the name from Anwhere Christian Church to Anywhere Meeting Place, would you have a problem with that?

I'm just saying that todays change, just outwardly reflects, what went wrong with the 777 changes. Dismal as it seems, it's just truth in advertising. Not shocking just depressing..

I agree it was a pretty big and quick mind change and I even started a very unpopular thread over on STR about it. But I wasn't aware at the time that I posted my last post about him changing his mind that he had purchased the domain name that long ago. I have to agree it does look somewhat dicey to me.

BUT - if he actually went with what the majority of members wanted, as he first said he was going to, and if he still gave us the wiki system of rules, we would have had the chance to actually make it a Christian site.

Now that chance is completely gone, and that chance was taken in a highly dishonest manner.

Actually amongst my plainer mennonite friends they call their buildings a "meeting house":p :p :p :p :p

Does that help?

The problem I have was that he apparently bought the name foru.ms before the poll was even closed. I think if he wanted to change the name, he could have, but don't give us a poll, and buy a name (for 7,000, so its not just spare change) when the poll still had a week left.

It's definitely the beginnings of a slippery slope and we have real life to look at for proof (the examples you gave actually do happen and once they do, you don't see a reversal, but more of the same thing---less Christ).
