  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I went to a vegan potlock at a SDA assembly/church in my area. There was no meat.

Do SDAs not eat meat and if they don't what is the reasoning?

ETA: yes I get that meat wouldn't be at a vegan potluck, I am just wondering if there was a reason they had a vegan only potluck as opposed to just a potluck.

Ohhh, my----maybe I should warn you about going to any non--protestant church!! Yes, our potlocks are mostly vegan, we beleive that we are healthier eating a diet that is closer to what God orginally had in mind--and leave the animals to other animals--but some of us do eat some eat, but stick to the "clean meats" as outlined in the bible. We also avoid caffeine and alcohol. I did not notice that this was an Eastern Orthodox thread, so I guess they can go ahead and bash us!! I do keep forgetting to check which forum the post is under. Sorry. I will bow out. My, I did not know we inspired such fear!

That's very interesting and sounds very reasonable.

Huh, no kidding. Thank you for answering, I really had no idea, actually about anything the SDA church believes or its history.

Yeah...I guess humor doesn't translate well in this format, especially sarcasm.

OT- how could you end up in this thread without knowing it's an EO forum? Are you patrolling CF for key words or something?

I caught this post on the "New Posts" link at the top. :)

Oddly, I've been using this forum for years and never noticed that link:p

I can never get the multi quote thing to work either, but that's a different subject!

For multi quote, just click MQ for the posts u want to multiquote, (it holds those) then click Post reply (not post quick reply, that won't work).

I tried that several times by clicking MQ and then QR, but nothing happened.

Try clicking MQ on Post 1, then click MQ on Post 2, then Click Quote on post 2. Both quoted posts will show up on the screen you type your response in. This is the only way it works for me.

We usually have a vegetarian potluck (plus fish, so it aint vegan) during Lent.

I hope you appreciate our sense of humor. I actually used to visit an SDA grocery/book store in Glendale, but I think the grocery part of the store is no longer in business. They had some good stuff for sale.

Oddly, I've been using this forum for years and never noticed that link:p

Okay, Kristos, I finally got this thingy to work, but here was how I did it.

Click MQ for post 1
Click MQ for post 2
Then click QUOTE and all the posts appear, and it is ready to be analyzed.

That's unique for the poultry industry in Italy.

Oh really, I did not know that. :)

:p

Yes, but I would hardly go to Italy asking for "un poulet" since they don't speak French there.

Yes, do not ask for burro in Italy expecting a donkey, you will get butter.

:p

An SDA Assembly might have dispensation on this issue according to Ellen G White.

Oh yes, Ellen G. White is like the SDA Pope-Founder, isn't she?

~~~~~
Okay, it worked again:
MQ for first post
MQ for second post. etc.
QUOTE for final post
Works like a charm.
Ugh, I just noticed I originally typed QR, that is quick reply. I should have typed Quote. The way you just did it is the way I have to do it.
I did it quite by accident, hitting QUOTE, that is.
And the rest is history.
