I've decided to join the USMC and try to become a MP. My only question is would it be best to try getting into USNA or just to enlist. Thankyou for your help :)

USNA? THe United States Naval Academy! It is easier to get into Harvard then getting into the USNA! It is easier to swim from England to France and back blindfolded, then to get into the USNA!

To answer your question, if you want to become a officer for the Navy or the Marines(aviation, Surface warship, submarine, and USMC) then the USNA is just one option. There is also NROTC and OCS(my goal). I am not sure, but i don't believe that you have to be a officer to be a MP, so you could just enlist.

Yeah, I tried for an academy. West Point wouldn't even send me the full application and Annapolis never even returned my phone calls! I ended up going to The Citadel in Charleston, SC its a state run military college. I did Air Force ROTC and I'm now an intelligence officer. I had a lot of firends who did Naval ROTC, and in fact I was in NROTC for my first year and tried to contract. The Navy wants techies (engineer/science majors) and I was a history major. But I'm very happy where I am now.

Enlisting is always a good option, I know a lot of officers from every service who enlisted and later went officer. You can get a degree while on active/resevere duty and apply for OCS, and they even have special channels for enlisted folks to get picked up for the academy.

I know that the Marines dont give you your actual job assignment, unless you specifically sign a contract for either aviation or JAG, until you complete TBS.

It's not that hard, you just have to have a 4.0, 1600 SAT and a perfect ACT score....and then be very smart at the same time....yeah so its pretty dang hard...if you just want to be an MP...Enlisting is the way to go.

Not only do you have to have a 4.0+ gpa and a near perfect SAT score, but you also need involvement in sports, extra-curricular activities, government recommendations, etc..

I gave up on the Academy dream months ago...Its either NROTC or OCS for me now.

All officers that come from the USNA, NROTC, and OCS all end up at the same flight school(that is, if they choose aviation).

yes I know this already  I know the requirements for USNA and West Point have a few buddies who went that way. NROTC is just as difficult to keep obtained though.

What you said + a congressional recommendation (from your congressman). It is difficult, and should be.

I guess I don't understand your desire to be an MP. I worked one day as a "brig chaser" at the brig at Treasure Island (Califorina, now decommissioned). That means that I escorted prisoners to sick bay, etc. One day was plenty for me.

Good luck.

When i get into college, i will do whatever i can to maintain/earn a high grade point average. I will then apply for a two year scholarship(last two years of college), and for whatever reason if that doesn't work out, i will prepare myself for OCS. I am very serious in becoming an aviator for the USN.

You go to the citadel? I've already sent a preapp to the Citadel. I know someone who goes there, but he'd be a freshman this year. Maybe you know him?

Yea, that is true. I heard that the Marines have the 5th largest Air Force in the world...

You can do both. The academies accept a number of enlisted every year. You have to go through a year of prep school first but then you're in the academy. The requirements aren't quite as strict as for straight out of high school. You still need good SAT and GPA, though not as good, and you need to be recommended by an officer board.

If you want to be an MP and do actual MP work, then your best bet is to enlist.

If you want to be an MP officer, and learn more about managing/leading MPs, then go the officer route, NROTC-M or USNA.

And, some advice from a USMA grad: be advised that getting into any academy will be hard work, but extremely rewarding. I would not trade my four years of West Point for anything.
