Encouraging Scriptures That Have Helped Me Through Anxiety Disorder Recovery

Hello to everyone reading this post! I've been dealing with anxiety disorder for a long time now, and God has been helping me so much throughout it all - in particular, his Word and in prayer.

One thing that has helped me so much throughout this journey has been memorizing scripture - in particular, verses related to anxiety and the character of God. God put it on my heart to start a thread and share some of my favorite verses on here every now and then. I pray that all of you reading this will be encouraged by the scriptures and will seek hard after God and find all of the riches that come with being in a close relationship with him. He has been the most important thing throughout my entire recovery journey - my rock, my strength, my comforter, my friend.

Hi Pearl I pray that you and everyone reading will find them encouraging. Also, that the Lord will strengthen you with them and lead you to a deeper relationship with him.

My six year battle with anxiety disorder has almost come to a close and these scriptures have helped me to deal with my underlying fears and given me strength when I needed it most.

The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing. (Isaiah 51:3)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. I identify a lot with David in the Bible. He made mistakes in his life and suffered consequences. He struggled with anxiety and depression. He had difficult seasons in life and longed for "the good old days" when he felt joy instead of sadness, pain and despair. He committed adultery with Bethsheba, then his son raped his half sister and then his son was murdered by one of David's others sons for his deeds. Saul tried to kill David and was hunting him down. David hid in a cave and wrote several Psalms. But he turned back to the Lord even in times of despair and confusion.

“My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be:
I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!

Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!
Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you—
even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar.
I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
