Going to church is helpful because you fellowship with other Christians.

However, it is not the building that helps you. It is you and the other people of God. It is YOU, not the building, who make up the Body of Christ.

Church is great for helping you with your faith, but dont have it as the crutch of your faith. Some ideas on how to commit? Well God is always making opportunity for you do so, it just takes recognising and then faithful action. Id say start small because smaller actions are easiet and then you can make them habbit and eventually then will lead to the tackling of bigger things like missions trip and stuff. Do something completely random. Maybe go down to the nearest large city and find a homeless person and buy them a hot meal and sit down with them and have a conversation. If you cant do that, visit a home for the elderly and ask some one who works there who hasnt got a visit in a long time and visit them.

If you want a serious walk with God spend a prayerful hour each day in the bible!! And put what you read into action.

Psa 119:105 NUN. Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Rom 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Pray pray pray... you can't pray enough!!! especially Pray daily for the path on which God want's you to walk.... Be always willing to change because unless you are perfect then there will be plenty of changing that needs to take place.

If prayer and time with God in the word can be broken down in your life by the enemy then you are going to be in for a tough time.

Do not look to other christians for your faith you can easily be dissapointed, look to christ! Adam in the garden said...... but but but The woman was doin it.

Church is good... united we stand and all that. However don't commit yourself to a church as such, commit yourself to God. If you don't have a church that you are going too.. i'd suggest laying down some serious prayer before you start looking, maybe even fasting and praying.

The standard is high, you are a servant of the all powerful creator of the universe, live like it! we are to be Christians (followers of Christ), we are to be Christlike (what is he like?).

1 cr 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring [it] into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Welcome to the family God. I am excited for you, and I praise the Lord for saving you.

I believe it is so important to be fed the right kind of spiritual food. So reading the Word is very important for your spiritual growth. Prayer regularly, keep the communication lines open between yourself and the Lord. It is important to get baptised sometime soon, this is an outward testimony to your committment to follow the Lord.
What helps me to continue living for the Lord? well I have tried to live without Him and it doesn't work! Really... just remembering what He did for me on the Cross, just knowing how much He loves me, getting to really know who God is through His Word, learning new things, it really is an exciting journey at times. If you seek Him, you will find Him and you will just want more.

Always remember there may be times you may not feel His presence, You may think He is not there. But His Word says otherwise. Know that you are always His for eternity and He will never leave you nor forsake you.

And to answer your last question, no it is not necessary to committ to a particular church building or be a member of a church to be a committed Christian. We can be committed and serve the Lord in so many areas of our lives, but it is important to be with other Christians, pray and worship, have fellowship to encourage one another, it helps us to stay on the right track and so going to church is really a good thing on the whole. Try and find yourself a bible based church, with a pastor/preacher who teaches sound doctrine and where the people are friendly.

God Bless you and I will pray for you.

Well, you need to spend time with other Christians.

You need to have the Bible explained to you.

And you need to be baptised (if you aren't already).

Three good reasons to go to church.

Read the Bible. That is a good start. Enter a fellowship of the faithful. And get baptisted seems a wonderful advice. Visit different churches and see what they teach. But also search in your heart. Belonging to a community of faithful will help you and nurture you. Also looking for a spiritual guide will help you enormously as you try your journey. Someone who could answer your questions about the interpretation of the Bible and other faith issues. Also as far as praying the Psalms are great to teach someone how to pray in the beginning. I pray that God will guide your footsteps towards your salvation.

God Bless,
Philothei

You do not need to go to a church. I dont go to church because of transportation issues but if you cant go then dont. Just sent aside Sunday and sit in your room with the radio on low chrisitan music and study your Bible. Pray and get used to talking to the Lord. Get books that will help you (if your the reading type). If you cant go to church just find some good christian friends. God bless you in your journey!:groupray:

I am also a new Christian...a few things that are helping me are my daily prayer time with the Lord, reading my Bible daily, and finding a wonderful church (one that welcomed me with open arms and didn't have "rules" that I had to follow to be able to go to heaven...I attend Lakewood in Houston which is awesome). Also here is something that may help you...it helped me:

“WHO I AM IN CHRIST”
I am complete in Him Who is the Head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:10).
I am alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:5).
I am free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2).
I am far from oppression, and fear does not come near me (Isaiah 54:14).
I am born of God, and the evil one does not touch me (I John 5:18).
I am holy and without blame before Him in love (I Peter 1:16; Ephesians 1:4).
I have the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5; I Corinthians 2:16).
I have the peace of God that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
I have the Greater One living in me; greater is He Who is in me than he who is in the world (I John 4:4).
I have received the gift of righteousness and reign as a king in life by Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).
I have received the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus, the eyes of my understanding being enlightened (Ephesians 1:17,18).

I have received the power of the Holy Spirit to lay hands on the sick and see them recover, to cast out demons, to speak with new tongues. I have power over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means harm me (Mark 16:17,18; Luke 10:17,19).

I have put off the old man and have put on the new man, which is renewed in the knowledge after the image of Him Who created me (Colossians 3:9,10).

I have given, and it is given to me; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, men give into my bosom (Luke 6:38).

I have no lack for my God supplies all of my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

I can quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one with my shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16).

I can do all things through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:13).
I shall do even greater works than Christ Jesus (John 14:12).
I show forth the praises of God Who has called me out of darkness into His marvelous light (I Peter 2:9).
I am God’s child¾for I am born again of the incorruptible seed of the Word of God, which lives and abides forever (I Peter 1:23).

I am God’s workmanship, created in Christ unto good works (Ephesians 2:10).
I am a new creature in Christ (II Corinthians 5:17).
I am a spirit being¾alive to God (I Thessalonians 5:23; Romans 6:11).
I am a believer, and the light of the Gospel shines in my mind (II Corinthians 4:4).
I am a doer of the Word and blessed in my actions (James 1:22,25).
I am a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17).
I am more than a conqueror through Him Who loves me (Romans 8:37).
I am an overcomer by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony (Revelation 12:11).
I am a partaker of His divine nature (II Peter 1:3,4).
I am an ambassador for Christ (II Corinthians 5:20).

I am part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people (I Peter 2:9).

I am the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ (II Corinthians 5:21).
I am the temple of the Holy Spirit; I am not my own (I Corinthians 6:19).
I am the head and not the tail; I am above only and not beneath (Deuteronomy 28:13).
I am the light of the world (Matthew 5:14).
I am His elect, full of mercy, kindness, humility, and longsuffering (Romans 8:33; Colossians 3:12).
I am forgiven of all my sins and washed in the Blood (Ephesians 1:7).
I am delivered from the power of darkness and translated into God’s kingdom (Colossians 1:13).
I am redeemed from the curse of sin, sickness, and poverty (Galatians 3:13; Deuteronomy 28:15-68).
I am firmly rooted, built up, established in my faith and overflowing with gratitude (Colossians 2:7).
I am called of God to be the voice of His praise (II Timothy 1:9; Psalm 66:8).
I am healed by the stripes of Jesus (I Peter 2:24; Isaiah 53:5).
I am raised up with Christ and seated in heavenly places (Colossians 2:12; Ephesians 2:6).
I am greatly loved by God (Colossians 3:12; Romans 1:7; I Thessalonians 1:4; Ephesians 2:4).
I am strengthened with all might according to His glorious power (Colossians 1:11).
I am submitted to God, and the devil flees from me because I resist him in the Name of Jesus (James 4:7).
I press on toward the goal to win the prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward (Philippians 3:14).

For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, love, and a sound mind (II Timothy 1:7).
It is not I who live, but Christ lives in me (Galatians 2:20).
