  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

With a few more characters like Justin Bieber and Zac Effrom, the emasculation of the American male will be complete.
It all started with William Shatner...

Luckily we have Mr. T's Pity, Chuck Norris's beard, and Vin Diesel to counter them...

Some interesting articles to further the discussion:

Modern men feel emasculated, study claims - Telegraph

Feminization of men - AskMen.com

That last I find especially interesting. I note that some of the things they complain about are men being expected to have "relationship skills" and communication skills.

I can't repost it here, but check out the very last line of that article.

What do you guys think of it?

This is really the kind of thing I had in mind when I was writing the OP.

That article was clearly written from a very worldly point of view. But here's one dealing with the church:

A lot of the language used here boils down to:
Male: virile, strong, good, honest, the standard
Female: weak, manipulative, bad, the "other"

Feminization of men is always viewed as a step backward because we regard the masculine as being a step ahead to start with.

We ought to recognize that the categories of masculine and the feminine possess both positive and negative traits. I think we'd also be better off embracing the concept that men and women generally possess both masculine and feminine traits, with a lot of variation between individuals. Pigeonholing individuals as possessing or SHOULD be possessing one or the other exclusively due to their biological sex is the problem.

The problem with these articles is that they deal with stereotypes. Whether positive or negative, few individuals exemplify these. When I see phrases like 'hunter-gatherer' and 'bread winner', I know the article is biased. Gender roles are constantly in flux. All that these articles are showing is that we want to go back to when things were simpler. But I really doubt they were. We have a tendency to view the past with rose colored glasses.

Most of the 'male movement' that these things touch on is nothing more than guys being reactionary because we are losing some power. With the sole exception of child custody law, it is nothing more than men whining that they have to treat girls like people. This is less about emasculation than about not wanting to share.

Hey thinks for linking these articles because they've just given me an idea. :D

Rule #1: Always and I mean always rely on gender stereotypes. Why? Obviously men act one and women act another way. There's no in between, you must establish that women are women and men are men. Anything else is just abnormal and wrong.

Rule #2: Say that men are becoming women, by citing examples of the "metro-sexual" because clearly men being interested in fashion and looking good is a brand new phenomenon that's never happened in the history of humanity.

Rule #3: Ignore the ways where women are still viewed as second class citizens, not only in Western society but abroad as well. Yeah, it's a woman's world alright.

Rule #4: Blame feminism, because the evil feminazis never wanted equality in the first place they just wanted to punish men because after all, they're evil man-haters who want to be men!!!

Rule #5: Use phrases like "hunter-gatherer" and "bread winner" to sound more credible, don't investigate the meaning of these word or where they originated.

I'm just joking of course, if anyone wants to add more that would be nice. :) But it's a pattern I noticed in these types of articles.

Rule #6: Emphasize the fact that the only thing of worth a woman can provide a man is regular sex and a cold one. Vehemently denounce all men who want relationships or love as feminized metrosexuals that are part of the problem.

I don't feel emasculated by a slight from a woman unless she does it in an attempt to deliberately slight my masculinity. And in that case, I believe I would be quite justified in objecting. As far as paying for dinner and holding doors and things like that - being providers to women and children is in our biology. It is part of our purpose. I have no trouble with a girl wanting to pay for her own meal in general, but when girls get offended when men try to treat them, it probably feels to a man like it would feel to a woman to have a man say he would make a better mother than she would.
