  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Im looking for a place I can buy a few things for an electronics experiment.

Are there any good wholesale or cheap stores online that sell electronics parts?

Specifically Im looking for a dynamo and a small (And I do mean small) air compressor.

For the dynamo I was considering getting a flashlight like THIS and just cannibalizing the dynamo out of it.

And for an air compressor there are electric ones for filling car tyres, or do you need a higher flow rate?

Would a sudden large flow do, such as filling a car tyre then letting air out?

(I'd be interested to hear more if you want to say what the experiment is)

Im trying to make a dynamo powered blower. I turn a crank attached to the dynamo and it powers the air compressor. I'd like the air to come out as fast as possible and still be able to be reasonably powered by the dynamo

For the most efficient design you probably be better off using a mechanical compressor and skip the mechanical->electrical->compressor flowchart.

A little model makers electric motor (dc) is cheap and fun. Solder a red LED across the terminals one way and a green one the other way, spin the motor one way and the green one comes on and the other way the red one.

That is a simpler and more transparent version of the wind up flashlight without the built in battery.

As Soph... said, use of a dynamo to power a compressor is going to be a big challenge.

This is an interesting thread, I want to hear about more experiments
