  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Then I have no answer to the question.
Exactly, and ascribing a deity to it, doesn't get us any closer to a better understanding.

You've bought into the classic god of the gaps argument, which is a fallacy. Can you at least understand why some may think it's dishonest to insert their own personal god as an explanation, when we don't have a natural answer? It only poisons the well, and doesn't bring us closer to a real understanding. Additionally, every single time that science does figure something out, it has %100 of the time not been a deity.

It's simply not enough to say, look at all this amazing phenomena I don't understand, therefore a god must be responsible.

We're not trying to explain where the laws of nature came from!

We're trying to explain where life came from. If we can do that without having to drastically change the laws of nature, then our explanation is much more likely to be accurate than one which does require such changes.

Correction:

"And that has led you to what conclusion? See, with no explanation to where the laws of nature originated, you have very little, so might be a good idea to realize you can't use the laws of nature to explain where life came from because at one time there may have been no laws of nature."

The laws of nature MUST be explained first or you don't have all the equation.

One cannot explain fully or even begin to explain life without explaining where it started. We've been over this several times and as much as folks would like to throw that fact out, you got nothing without it.

All of them. Not a single serious hypothesis for the origin of life requires 'nothing to come out of nowhere'. Only one 'explanation' for the origin of life requires complex acids and sugars to magically appear out of nowhere, and that's your explanation.

How did things begin...from the start. Choose any hypothesis you like to expand on.

'There may have been no laws of nature'. There is zero evidence to suggest the laws of nature have ever been different from what we observe today, since the beginning of the universe (which, btw, was a long time before life on Earth originated).

Your explanation for the origin of life relies on the fact that the laws of nature were, at some point, different. Scientists are working to assess the accuracy of hypotheses which do not require that the laws of nature were different at some point.

The fact that their explanations work within the universe we can observe, and yours does not, makes their explanations better.

Wait until the Rapture, when all the scientists will go running to their sacred SETI sites to sing their global anthem:

"Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind, Whose Breath gives life to all the world.
Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom.
O Great Spirit of the North, who gives wings to the waters of the air...........
O Great Spirit of the East, the land of the rising Sun.......
O Great Spirit of the South, whose warm breath of compassion melts the ice .........
O Great Spirit of the West, the land of the setting Sun,

Ezekiel 37:9
And He saith unto me: "Prophesy unto the Spirit, prophesy, son of adam, and thou sayeth unto the Spirit: 'Thus said the my Lord Yahweh: From the four winds come in, O Spirit, and breathe on these slain, and they do live.'"
