  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In some countries it's illegal to eat and walk at the same time...I think I heard that somewhere. I think in a town very near me it used to be a rule. I'll have to look it up because Luther would be interested if it was.

I guess rules that are made simply so that there are rules. They don't really serve any purpose other than to be annoying.

Hmmm...I guess that at some point someone thought that there was a need for that rule (whatever dumb rule(s) we're talking about here) so there was some logic to the rule...I'm not sure that I've run across rules that were made just to be annoying. I've run across rules that I personally don't like and think are dumb but I don't think they were made just to irritate others. I think they were made for a reason and it's usually cause someone (or a group of someones) caused a problem and couldn't follow the simple rules of being polite and/or treating others as they want to be treated and/or if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all, etc.

hmmm well at my work its against the rules to drink coffee or anything on the floor, unless you're a supervisor or have been told otherwise by a supervisor. then of course they decided they haven't been sending us enough mixed signals so they gave everyone travel mugs to use at work at the beginning of the season this year

can you tell its a government operation? :D

The church where I work has some pretty silly unofficial rules. When I've tried to point out that they really aren't that great, I'm inevitably met with "well I've been here 15 (or more) years and that's the way we've always done it."

For instance, I'm the music director, and every Sunday before the 10:15 service, the choir meets at 9:30 for warmup and practice. Apparently since forever they've practiced until 10 and then everyone has coffee while I play preludes. Unfortunately, coffee isn't very good for your singing voice, and there have also been a couple instances where they lose track of time and end up hurrying back in as I announce the first song.

When I commented that coffee wasn't good right before singing and that I might consider switching it up somewhat, the oldest lady in the choir replied "well I've been making the coffee for 40 years now" as if that settled the matter. :/

The "Bomb" signs at Airports. Before 9/11 after 9/11 serious must you post a "sign" do not bring a bomb unto the airplane? The only people that will do that are the bad guys. But for the average joe? Remember don't bring your old-fashion bomb Joe they will take it away at the airport...

It is one less sign I can't stand to see...

God Bless,
Drew
