The Nevada GOP is insisting on holding its own caucus despite a new state law calling for a primary election, a move critics say is designed to benefit former President Donald Trump.

Historically, Nevada relied on caucuses (which generally rely on in-person participation) until a 2021 law changed the state to a primary. But the party can decide its nominations as it likes (and the GOP will).

Nevada Republicans brace for confusion as party eyes election rules that may favor Trump

[The new rules] would also restrict super PACs, like the one Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is relying on, from trying to bolster support for candidates in a caucus.

--

So as a refresher, Nevada will have both a state-run primary GOP election and a party-run caucus. As per the OP, only the caucus will actually decide the party's nominee; people who vote in the GOP primary are essentially wasting their time. It's also unclear whether the party will actually be able to staff the caucuses.

How nice for the GOP to decide if the voters “got it correct” when they go to the polls!

In the (meaningless) primary, Nikki Haley "received fewer votes than "None of these candidates" by a large margin, the Associated Press projected."

The state governor had advocated voting in this way as a protest because Ms Haley will skip Thursday's caucuses.

[At least she walloped Mike Pence, who got 4%.]
